Re: H. R. Fluff 'n' Stuff Re: ectobalony ======================================================================== This digest is short 'cause the next one is VERY long :) --jessica ======================================================================== From: vickie@chinet.chi.il.us (Vickie Ann Mapes) Subject: But it's veeeeery long! Date: Mon, 27 Jan 92 23:19:34 CST Vickie here, dubbing deck at full steam ahead. Yes, the Ecto SiG is finished. I'm much more relieved about it than I might seem, but my confetti is all gone and I never could do cartwheels anyway. I'm extremely proud of it (even if I bitchbitch about a couple of things) (oops, proud of the Ecto SiG, not the fact that I can't do cartwheels :-) and I can't wait until you have it in your hands and it goes into the Ecto History books. Those who want a dub, just send me a 100 minute cassette (a 90 will *not* be accepted) and postage, adding a mailer or a buck for a mailer. Vickie Mapes, 1627 W. Farwell, #2N, Chicago, IL 60626 I'm almost, but not quite finished with the Ecto SiG history and it's 26,487 bytes, 6,178 words. It's really huge, but I suppose I will go ahead and post it when I'm done. I'm not sure I should though. Besides being big, the reason I hesitate is that it contains spoilers for the Ecto SiG. If you read it, by the time you're done you'll know nearly every detail about the show (and about my work habits :-) I say "nearly" because I'm not giving away *everything* but definitly a lot. There are all kinds of Spoiler Warnings, but still...If it's in ftp, people will have to make a special effort to get to it. I don't want to make it sound more important than it is, it's just a bunch of ramblings on everything that went into making the show, and the various incarnations the SiG has been through since last Sept. and some of the comedy of errors involved. It was fun to write and I do think people will enjoy it, but I also don't want the show to be spoiled for Ectophiles. Hmmm, the tapes won't go into the mail for a few more days because I want them to all be mailed at the same time. This is important to me: Please, those who get the Ecto SiG first, if you feel like talking about it, put Spoiler warnings in your Sub. Line. Obviously I hope people will like it and will want to talk about it, but we want to be aware of those who may not want to know anything about it until they actually hear it. I think I will post the story for those who don't mind knowing in advance the contents. I'll finish it up and post it later, and those who want to be suprised can save it to a file and skip reading it. Ok, I'll be back... Oh! Welcome to Dave Heath and any others reading at his site. David, if you don't know what in the world I'm talking about above, don't worry. I'll send you a FAQ & Project List so you'll be caught up. I'm going to re-post the Ecto/Homeground interview within the next week too. That also is very long, so be warned. The articles that were in rec.music.misc expired at Chinet, so I didn't get to save to file my 2 other posts. Did anyone else save them from the Happy thread? Please send them to me if you have them. I usually save copies of my own posts, but I let those sit for too long. Mike (mjm), the "Vickie's looks" thread started because I mentioned that I was a bit scared to meet other Ectophiles in Philly. It was a moment's insecurity and I'm all better now. Ectophiles rallied 'round and acted like the great group of wonderful people they are and calmed my fears totally. Jeff-with-the-long-black-hair, thanks for the story about listening to Happy while walking in the snow! Meredith, have you picked out favorite songs on Ecto yet? I'm so glad you like it so much. It's always been my favorite, though Rearmament has nudged it quite a few times (actually, every time I listen to Rearm I wonder, "is this my favorite album yet?" but then Box H.A.P comes on and I say "no, but close" :-) ) Bye once again... Fluff 'n' Stuff Yes, I too admit to being somewhat put off by all the fluff and stuff in the 'normal' Ecto postings. The fuzzy blue atmosphere not only nearly made me unsubscribe to Ecto at one point or another, but it can also be hard on the lungs and eyes. I don't mean to say that any Echophyte should change her or his posting habits, not at all! But I do share woj's concern about how many people are turned off by the warm blue fuzziness of it all. It can be hard to wade through Ecto to find the real content. But, as you see, I am still here and am content to remain, yours, mostly lurking, listening and HOPING HAPPY WILL PLAY OUT WEST! Oh yeah, one more thing I meant to mention... I have been sincerely unable to remove My Bloody Valentine's LP _Loveless_ from my player. The LP even edged out Happy and Cud at the top of my personal playlist. _Warpaint_ is a great antidote for _Loveless_' great wash of beautiful noise, e'en so. And if anybody can figure out the lyrics, send 'em in! -- John -- XTC's new album _Nonesuch_. I was addressing a concern that some Ectophiles might have (ie. that r.m.e. may hasten the loss of the current Fuzzy Blue feeling (for better or worse)). Neither do I understand why so many people are assuming that if something like rec.music.happy-rhodes got created that the ecto mailing list would HAVE to be gatewayed onto it. Then we'd probably have to create the fuzzy-blue mailing list for people who are too easily depressed or offended by the madding crowds. What I think would be best would be to keep ecto a mailing list of voluntary membership only. Only the people really interested in fuzzy blueness and blah blah blah need apply. Then we could have {alt,rec}.music.happy-rhodes (if we really want publicity, let's not have a cryptic name like "ecto" on the end) which could be an alternative channel, available to anyone who stumbles across it, reachable by the great net.unwashed and a forum for our Happy propoganda. Plus Cynthia could join up and flame to her heart's content. I suspect that alt.music.happy-rhodes is much more likely to get created than rec.music.happy-rhodes. It may not have the same propogation but if somebody out there REALLY wants a newsgroup, they wouldn't have a hard time creating it. ======================================================================== To join ecto, please send electronic mail to the following address: ecto-request@athos.rutgers.edu To have your thoughts included in the next issue, send mail to: ecto@athos.rutgers.edu To subscribe to "Ecto", the printed fanzine, send $8 to: Ecto PO Box 11291 New Brunswick, NJ 08906 Ecto is issued 8 times/year, and will include photos and as much material from non-net members as we can get!
