"Stateless...Plus" sounds disappointingly flat compared to the vinyl version of "Stateless". But, check out Lene singing "I think we're alone now" in Japanese on the Plus CD! > But apart from that, last evenings CD shopping was very successful, as > I finally found my first albums from Danielle Dax and Diamanda Galas, as Ooo, two of my favorites!! Hope you got Danielle's "Dark Adapted Eye". If you like them, check out some of the music by "Sisters of Mercy" and "Bauhaus". How old is this stuff ? I don't care much for Patti's recent stuff ("People have the power", bah!!) but her older stuff like the CDs "Horses" and "Easter" is way cool!! - Vish ======================================================================== Subject: Re: Betty Date: Fri, 17 Jan 92 15:57:55 EST From: jeffy@lewhoosh.umd.edu >I saw BETTY in 1989 and got a real kick out of the performance. Am I wrong about this, those of you who've seen them >and heard their tape? Well, I'm not really qualified to comment on this since I haven't seen BETTY perform live. I will say that the album is growing on me incredibly quickly--I'm already wandering around singing bits of songs--and I'm incredibly impressed with it. The album is very well thought out and has a wonderful stream-of-consciousness sort of flow to it; not really a concept album, but the sense of continuity is wonderful. The recording itself is crystal clear (DDD...why can't KaTe do that? ). I would not consider this a "capturing of a concert performance" but merely a great alternative-female-rock-a capella-vocal jazz-comedy-satire. Vickie--your tape is already on its way...;-) Jeff (who has already come up with a list of about 5 people he's dying to send copies of _Hello Betty!_ to, but is wary, because he respects BETTY's exhortation that "unauthorized duplication is a violation of applicable laws, bootleggers suck.") ======================================================================== Date: Fri, 17 Jan 92 16:41:26 EST From: Laura Clifford Subject: Happy sig >Laura, what did your cousin think of the signed Warpaint? >Vickie She LOVED it - and she has more of a collector's item than I do because none of mine are signed... If so, I would appreciate any reviews. (No better critics than ecto-critics). She is playing the Sanders Theater in February and I am wondering if I should go. BTW, I thought of a great advertising campaign for Happy's concerts. Posters with the ecto cover, and the question: R U Ecto? Find out at the Happy Rhodes concert at ... Another thing: I absolutely recommend the soundtrack to 'Until the end of the world'. Can't wait to see the movie. I went to the T-shirt place today - the first batch of 12L and 12XL shirts had already come in (eep! they didn't even have all the artwork yet!). The shirts are *not* hanes, as i said earlier, but fruit of the loom. They *are* preshrunk, to answer harry's question. They're quite nice shirts, if i do say so myself. I admit i was worried abotu having to pick the color from a color sheet on paper and not actual fabric, but they seem really nice. Also, the larges are quite large. My apologies to claudia and steve who preferred mediums.. :( Since the larges are as big as they are, i went with large for the third batch. So they expect they'll have them ready by the end of next week. I just hope they get the "Happy Rhodes" positioned right.. i've spoken to two different people there, on three different occasions.. they seem capable (the samples on the walls look really nice) but slightly disorganzed :) Well, we'll know soon. i second woj's question, who will be at the philly show? So far i know defintiely of myself and joe, greg and angelos, woj, Bob Brown, hank and beth kilmer and two of their friends who haven't heard any happy music yet but hank bought them tickets as a present, he expects they'll be converted :), sean casey, dave steiner and possibly reg steiner. mm I tihnk maybe a few others said definitely.. I ought to make a list. a real list, that is :) we definitely all ought to get together before the show, whether or not happy joins us. (that or on sunday - but it may be easier the day of the show - people seem to be coming from all over :) jessica ======================================================================== To join ecto, please send electronic mail to the following address: ecto-request@athos.rutgers.edu To have your thoughts included in the next issue, send mail to: ecto@athos.rutgers.edu To subscribe to "Ecto", the printed fanzine, send $8 to: Ecto PO Box 11291 New Brunswick, NJ 08906 Ecto is issued 8 times/year, and will include photos and as much material from non-net members as we can get!
