Re: Betty Re: My first Ecto post, my address, the Philly concert, dreams. t shirts. ======================================================================== Another short but somewhat time-sensitive digest... --jessica ======================================================================== Date: 16 January 1992 11:51:04 CST From: Subject: One bad neologism deserves another--or does it? In his commentary on the jeremiad I posted yesterday, Greg stated: >the erudititudinal style of Mitch's >account of recording the intro for his HGP submission This is a new word for me. Did he mean eruditional, attitudinal, or some synthesis of the two? Or is this a thickly veiled attempt to go me one better in the conceptual bad cookery department, by alluding to the International House of Pancakes' attempted insult to the gastric walls (as seen on local Chicago TV, at least), the eruditudi fresh and fruiti? But seriously, folks: I saw a squib on the news flasher in the subway yesterday, that Governor Florio had urged the health department to reverse itself on the egg thing. (This may, if nothing else, regain him around one-umpteenth of the political capital he has reportedly lost over the tax thing :-) ). If they don't listen to him, however, this opens the way for the Garden State cell of our social network to expand its nascent t-shirt enterprise: I envision a special edition shirt with the usual ecto/Happy-conn- ected graphics on the front; and on the back, in lieu of the "I'll be here, I'll be Ecto" slogan, the epigraph from Adlai Stevenson which I listed at the end of yesterday's jeremiad. (for the benefit of those who don't recall it, it was "Eggheads of the world unite. You have nothing to lose but your yolks." ) Some fine print could conceivably be worked in all the way at the bottom, identifying the ecto collectivity as the source of the shirt (and, by impli- cation, touting the ecto collectivity in its own right). Damned if I know why, but listening to the Happy Gift Project tapes as I write in relation to real or imagined foods that range from harmless but yucky to harmless but wrongfully maligned by the health bureaucracy, made me think of a witticism uttered sometime in the spring of 1966 by my high school German teacher at the time. "Ein Gift ist kein Geschenk," he said. I'll leave it to Klaus to determine whether or not that's really relevant to anything we're doing 26 years later :-) :-(' . Unfortunately, the same evening is the "Voices for Choice" concert (to commemorate Roe V Wade) at Constitution Hall (interesting choice of venue, as Constitution Hall is actually Daughters of the American Revolution's Constitution Hall, and DAR does not exactly strike me as a liberal, left-wing pro-choice sort of group...;-) featuring Indigo Girls, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Melissa Etheridge and one or two others I can't remember, and that would probably be a much more, um, fulfill area. >My sister lives in the DC area, which is really >my hometown. That's *MS.* Snake to YOU. ::snap:: Jeff (grooving to BETTY one more time this evening...I've decided that they're a cross between the female portion of Manhattan Transfer, Jane Siberry, and Laurie Anderson.
