It was on a movie called 'Secret of the Incas' and she sang Taita Inty! Vickie, did you know of this movie? I didn;t and the last thing I expected while watching it (which I wouldn;t ordinarily but anything about Machu Picchu grasps my attention since my trip there) was to see Yma Sumac. Anyway, the movie just restarted, so I have to go... I had brought Julee Cruise's album over to some friends of ours, and as an afterthought, brought _Warpaint_ along, too, basically because I thought it was a great album, and they would like it. Well, unbeknownst to me, and sometime later, her sister and brother-in-law were up, and he thought the album was great. So great, in fact, that John made a tape and brought it back to Santa Barbara (CA) with him, where he is involved extensively in the music scene. Some time later, I get a call from John, hi, howya doing, WHO is this GREAT album by!?? I had no idea what he was talking about, but after he filled my in a little, I could tell him that he had _Warpaint_. I gave him the particulars, finding out that people coming in to his shop near UCSB were clamoring to know WHO the tape was by, speculating Kate Bush, Laurie Anderson... He wanted to send off to AG right away to get his own copy. Unfortunately, though he wanted a phone number, I had none for AG, but he could try information. About an hour later, John calls back, telling me he just got off the phone with Kevin!! They had talked about Happy, the album, and the music biz. John had arranged to get some promo's for a couple of program directors who had also been asking "who?" including some college station in LA. Truthfully, I haven't talked to John in about a month, but last time I heard, popularity was growing. If Happy and Kevin have access to this list, I'll bet they will be amused by the coincidence of it all! Have a great 1992. I said this in context of HGP Pt.2: > If you can mail me before Sunday (which is when I'll probably finish ^^^^^^^ > the tapes) with your songs, and if I have them, you (and anyone else > who wants to be part of the second tape) can be included. I just wanted to make sure everyone (who might want to participate in the second tape) understands. *E-mail* me with a list of songs and artists. Go ahead and *snail mail* a tape, for your own copy, but I'm not waiting for tapes to come in the mail to finish the HGP. HAPPY New Year everybody!!!! (Or rather New HAPPY Year, perhaps??) Well, you've all heard by now what sorts of wild things can happen if a few Ecto's get together. I wonder what the critical mass is. I guess Jessica counts double, without her it wouldn't have happened at all and certainly would have been only half the fun :) What more is there to tell besides what G and J and A already told you? Well, we listened to a lot of music and the way to NY and some more on the way back. I recall Happy (would you have guessed?), Rainbirds, Sarah McLachlan, Lene Lovich. While the bumps in the road and the CD- player skidding added some interesting rhythmical variation I think we enjoyed it very much. I recall the way back only somewhat blurred, slipping in and out of weird dreams (not as weird as reality though!) without really sleeping, driving into the sunrise. Hey, Greg and Jessica, your show of getting lost in Manhattan was quite convincing ;) If Manhatten weren't an Island an thus finite you'd have me worried. But then, I couldn't tell one street from another. Jessica, did we really see all this? Wow! Certainly the best bit was the Ferry. Magnificent! (Though we did get some dirty looks from tired commuters, didn't we? Them trying to catch a nap after a hard days/nights work on the way home and 5 people, obnoxiously awake, popping noisily in and out of the doors to the outside bit every 5 minutes.) Angelos, there MUST be 100s or even 1000s of restaurants in Manhattan, the chances of you and your friends only knowing one and then it's the same one must be infinitesimal! This beats everything! I wonder what will happen when a lot of us get together eventually. Maybe we'll borrow Kate's rocket man's rocket and fly to the moon for lunch. Having recovered from the holidays, wishing everybody the same, Claudia spix@sparc6a.harvard.edu || 1000000:1 chances crop up 9 times out of 10! Claudia Spix || (Terry Pratchett, Guards! (I keep telling myself, write '1992', not '1991'. 1992, 1992, 1992.) Tons of stuff to catch up on, and only grams of times. Sigh! Happy Birthday, Jeanne! (even if you never see this!) I had a very strange year for Christmas cards. How many years do I get cards from my auto repair shop, someone I met only once, and a record company. Of course, I'll treasure that last one forever! Bad memory kept me from listening to most of the World Cafe year-end show that Vickie mentioned. I remembered in time to catch the last half hour. The show seemed to concentrate on the music performed live during the World Cafe interviews, not the whole interviews. Amazingly, I lucked out. I did catch Happy's slot (unless she had more than one), and she had the place of honor. The very last song played was her live version of "Feed the Fire" (I'm beginning to like this more than the album version), followed by David Dye giving a short note about Happy's plans to tour. Talk about coincidences. On the bus home from Stapleton Airport, I was listening to _Suzanne Vega_, and the song "Small Blue Thing" caught my ear for the first time. The very first item I read in Ecto is Alan's comment about it. As for the song, its slowly shifting images are fantastic, and the poetic imagery and symbolism in the whole album are great. (Admittedly once you catch the symbolism it showed one of the more jaundiced views of love I've heard.) One of my all-time favorite albums. Unfortunately, her succeeding albums haven't matched her debut lyrically, though are still well worth your while. However, I have never had Happy remind me of Suzanne Vega. As for songs for Happy to perform from the first four albums, I have one that no one's mentioned one that is a _must_ (though apparently not for everyone!). Add "I Have a Heart" to the list. Please!!?!? (Now I just have to find a way to get to one of her concerts!) Claudia wrote: Well, you've all heard by now what sorts of wild things can happen if a few Ecto's get together. I wonder what the critical mass is. For Ectophiles, we'll have to conduct more experiments, but this first one certainly sounded encouraging. However, I do know about meteorologists. A gathering of six or more meteorologists is guaranteed to bring rain. This was determined from personal observations. Jessica, have you been checking Ecto: The Warm Fuzzy Blue PO Box regularly?
