Now, I do realise that this is Ecto, and not alt.fan.drwho, but as that was one of the most important TV series of my growing years I can`t resist chipping in. I'm not sure I can plump for a single favourite Doctor. William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee, Tom Baker, and Colin Baker all seemed to do a good job from my point of view. I hated Peter Davidson though, I'm afraid I used to call him "that b****y vet" referring to his role as Tristan Farnhan in the TV series "All Creatures Great & Small". I stopped watching "Dr. Who" while he was on because I couldn't stand him. I don't recall ever seeing Sylvester McCoy. As to favourite assistants, I would go back to Zoe (Wendy Padbury) for my choice, followed closely by Sarah Jane (Elisabeth Sladen) and Jo Grant (Katy Manning). Leela I did not like. Favourite monster? Definitely the Cybermen. -- Regards Steve Fagg ( S.L.Fagg@bnr.co.uk +44-279-402437 ) BNR Europe Ltd., London Road, Harlow, Essex, CM17 9NA, UK *** "Better drowned than duffers. The song "Closer" is in the exact dead centre of the album, at least according to the timings displayed by my CD player. There's 28:03 before it and 28:03 afterwards. In my last post, I mentioned a few of the musical bits included on the Voyager disks. Vicki asked if the list was FTP'able from somewhere. It might be, but since I had the entire list in one of my books :), I figured I'd type them in. Bach Brandenberg Concerto Number Two, First Movement "Kinds of Flowers" Javanese Court Gamelan Senegalese Percussion Pygmy girls initiation song Australian Horn and Totem song "El Cascabel" Lorenzo Barcelata "Johnny B. Goode" Chuck Berry New Guinea Men's House "Depicting the Cranes in Their Nest" Bach Partita Number Three for Violin; Gavotte et Rondeaus Mozart Magic Flute, Queen of the Night (Aria Number 14) Chakrulo Peruvian Pan Pipes Melancholy Blues Azerbaijan Two Flutes Stravinsky, Rite of Spring, Conclusion Bach Prelude and Fugue Number One in C Major from the Well Tempered Clavier, Book Two Beethoven's Fifth Symphony, First Movement Bulgarian Shepherdess Song "Izlel Delyo Hajdutin" Navajo Indian Night Chant The Fairie Round from Pavans, Galliards, Almains Melanesian Pan Pipes Peruvian Woman's Wedding Song "Flowing Streams" - Chinese Ch'in music "Jaat Kahan Ho" - Indian Raga "Dark Was the Night" Beethoven String Quartet Number 13 "Cavatina" If I remember right, the Mozart piece has some INCREDIBLE female vocals. So maybe the aliens will want to come and here more of our great music?? :) This leads me to, what I think, could be an interesting thread. If YOU were to compile a list of, say, 10 or so musical pieces to represent humans, what would they be? I don't have a list yet, (I just thought of this), but I'll try to think of some. *Hugs* Vicki! :) John - (still waiting for Equipoise... today maybe???) ======================================================================== Subject: Re: oh and one other thing... I was the one who first made the comparison to _The Dreaming_ and I'm going to stand by that for one simple reason. One of the most common reactions people had to _The Dreaming_ when it came out was surprise and shock and yes, disappointment. Most of those people now claim TD as their favorite Kate Bush album. We've had a surprising number of Ectophiles admit that they were rather startled and disappointed when they first put on _Equipoise_. Most of those people have either mostly (woj, for instance) or completely revised their opinion and now really like the album (whether or not it becomes their fave will of course take time to tell). For the record, I loved both _Equipoise_ and _The Dreaming_ the first time I heard both of them. And _The Dreaming_ is *not* my favorite Kate Bush album. ;-) "Daddy bade me to keep things calm" (Hmmm. This should probably be the motto of Ecto: The Warm Fuzzy Blue Mailing List.) "Goodness had nothing to do with it!" - Mae West), Harvard Square, Cambridge has gone from no Happy tapes or CDs to many. I saw the post that Tower-Cambridge now has all the Happy CDs. Last night I found that Discount Records in Cambridge has them all too! (well actually not them all, since I scooped up Ecto and Rhodes II. The only ones I don't have or have on order!) I didn't actually listen to either last night *horrors*. I decided to wait and see if I get the three I have on order in the next couple of days. Then I'll have a three day weekend and 5 unheard Happy CDs to listen to. It sounds like a killer combination. Dr. Who: I'm a big Dr. Who fan too! (I have 40-50 on tape, around 25 novels, a couple of books, and 7 or 8 Dr. Who Monthlys!) I used to be a big Tom Baker Doctor fan (he was my first and you never forget your first Doctor. My but that does sound sick, doesn't it?), but I've really grown to appreciate all the others. Admittedly, the Hartnell years can be tiresome to view almost thirty years later, but it's not his fault. Favorite companion: Second Romana (Lalla Ward) I had a crush on her for a bit, although Leela (Louise Jamison) was fun too! Favorite villain: Either the Cyberman or the Master. I also like the Rani and occasionally the Sontarians! Favorite Dr. Who quote: "No, you're A DOCTOR. I'm THE DOCTOR! The definite article you might say." - Tom Baker in Robot) - Michael B.
