MOTHER SEA PLAY THE GAME ======================================================================== Subject: stuff'n'news From: klaus@inphobos.w.open.de (Cosmic Vagabond) Date: Sat, 06 Feb 93 15:16:45 GMT Sorry for this repost; it seems that it only went out to people who get ecto as single messages, as it didn't appear in the digests. I've also noticed that Angelos' scales picture never showed up in a digests, except when it was quoted. A hickup with the digester? Hi Ectophiles, here are some comments from the last digests and some news. > angelos (a man you never saw) No, we did. :) Christopher asked: > Does anybody know if SV is touring or just playing a coupla places in the > US ? If she _is_ touring is she likely to come to Australia ... ? She is touring. I saw many dates for the States, as well as Britain and Germany during February to April. Thanks go to Woj for the information about the Sundays and Live Spirals Downwards. I've only been able to find Sundays' "Blind" so far, which is quite nice although nothing comes up to the one song I heard before. Hey, Holland is just arround the corner.... :) Meredith replied: > The Sundays don't sound ANYTHING like early, middle, late or future Cocteau > Twins. woj, you're hallucinating again. :> Right, they sound a lot like 10000 Maniacs to me. What do you say about that comparison? :) Steve Fagg wrote: > Am I the only one on the list who suspects that Happy's *REALLY BIG > NEWS* may be of a more personal nature? Hmm ... can't think that Happy would make an announcement of personal nature in that way. Jeff wrote about Ruby Blue: > a woman named Rebecca Pidgeon, and the album (apparently they're only one) > is called _Down from Above_. It's on >Fontana/Polygram, catalog # 842568-2 > and it came out in '89. They've also done "Broken Water", released '92 on Red Flame Records. And before you ask, no, I haven't heard anything from them yet. Vollenweider. I have no idea to what he is up to these days though. I've finally found "The mermaid", the fairy tale with Annie Lennox and Peter Gabriel speaking the english version, that I've mentioned before. So far I've only listened to the german version, which came first, so I'll write more about it later. To the german ectophiles: I received my american cheque for Aural Gratification today, so it will go out with our order tomorrow. That'll be another 2 weeks until we can hear the new album. Let me close with another music recommendation. I already had this album in my top-10 but I never mentioned it. Marie Fredriksson, "Den staendiga resan", EMI Svenska, 1992 You've probably heard her sing before without knowing, as she is the singer from Roxette, a group which I don't count among my favourites. But when I zapped into an acoustic set they played on MTV Europe I noticed that she can sing. On her solo album she wrote the music and the songs, simple songs, ranging from ballads to rock pieces, all excellently played and sung. Oh, by the way, it's all in swedish, so I can't comment on the quality of the lyrics. The only thing I've learned so far is that the album title means "always travelling". If you have the chance to hear it, give it a try. Time for some sleep now ... ... We're still on our first listen as I post (yes, of course I couldn't resist). It seemed appropriate, and I tend to need to give things a more casual listen before I ready to give it the 100% attention listen (which I actually may not have time for in the next little while :P ) Wow. It's Happy, and I know I'm going to grow to love it as much as the others, though maybe not as much as Warpaint, which still blows me away everytime I hear it. Is it because it's the first one I heard that it has the most impact? Vickie says that Ecto is her favourite, and I wonder if it's the first one she heard. Though that's not always the case with me. On a personal note, I want to thank everyone for the congratulations on my book acceptance. Your warm responses really made my news even more special. You're great folks! Thanks! I'm very, well, very happy. God, Happy just made a couple of moves in "Save Our Souls" that sent a shiver up my spine. I'll turn this over to Jim. His turn: Wow, wow, wow... Can't believe we got it so soon. I told Neile we'd get it today (but did she believe me...)! Not quite a dance album like Warpaint was, but still special, still Happy! A spine tingling moment on Closer! The cover is a cross between the old "dark" tortured soul of the early Happy and the strong, fighting spirit of the later Happy...a real sense of balance...and yeah I agree with Vickie that Runners makes a great single! Getting the new Happy in the same week as the new Belly CD: musical nirvana. Ectophiles do it with poetic justice and perfect irony! Oh by the way, Steve, we got your copy as well and yes Happy signed it!!! --Neile & Jim ======================================================================== Date: Sun, 7 Feb 93 11:24:55 PST From: stevev@miser.uoregon.edu (Steve VanDevender) Subject: We have achieved Equipoise Neile Graham writes: > I'll turn this over to Jim. Uh, which Steve? :-) I sent in my check well before Vickie gave us the news that Happy and Kevin were up to their neck in _Equipoise_ CDs, and now I'm beginning to regret the circumstance of living on the other side of the country from Happy. All you people who already have your _Equipoise_ are lucky scumbags. ======================================================================== Subject: Today's your birthday friend....
