Claudia here. I've been sitting here trying not to chew my nails while thinking about Jorns post. I felt I wanted to say something, but didn't quite know how and what to relate it to, with all the little net experience I have. So, while I was hesitating a new digest came in and Angelos said it all! And maybe even more politely than I perhaps could have said it. Especially this about cross postings. So, I back you up 100%! And KiRi too! BTW, did I miss a digest or did NOBODY say anything about our recent ecto-gettogether? It was far too remarkable to be punished by silence. Hail Jessica, inventor of the (fuzzy) blue peach-shake! Leads to slight sensory distortion, looks blue and tastes yellow. Not to forget her role as producer of the bluest and Happy-est T-shirts in history! You'll be QUITE visible as a group on the concert. (Sigh, as usual) A deep bow to Angelos, master of the spinach pie (I forgot to ask, can I have the recipe?). Hi to Alan , maybe a new Rainbirds fan? (Sorry, forgot the names of your two friends) And thanks to Angelos and Greg who provided the perfect backgrounds for all of this, alternately a great Happy-poster, a warm and fuzzy fire and a studio full of music and CD's and e-mail access and KATE-posters and and Ecto-faces. Rains! Rains!" at the concert--would she try to play it? ;-) Hey i'll chant with you. WtRCD is a wonderful absolutely breathtaking song, and I would love to hear it live. But, I have a feeling the chances of that are very slim. Maybe if we all wrote our impressions of the song to her telling her what a stunning song it is she would reconsider her playlist. Hmmm? Not only that its hinges are screeching, but mainly because I keep finding tapes in it. Just grown accustomed to the HGP selection, I found a Tori Amos tape from Court in it yesterday, followed by the "Suspended in Ecto" tape today. I'm surprised about the speed. It only took 4 days from Chicago! Probably I will be disappointed if I don't find another tape tomorrow. You can get used to it. :) I just had this vision of Vickie buying loads of blue wool again, and the clerk thinking "I wonder why she is knitting so many blue socks". ;) I'm still in the process of listening to it, so more about it later. The last weeks I had been listening to a lot of different music and hardly anything from Happy, but I'm enchanted again. Aaaaah!!! ___________________________________________________________ ( "Tell me all the plans you have for the great beyond. ) ) Will you be physical again, or be a cosmic vagabond." Vickie, the Ecto-SiG came today. Wow. I read "Suspended in Ecto-The Novel", too- goddess, you went through about as much doing that as I used to with my experimental music studio-projects, but mine only saw one person (the prof) afterwards! You deserve to be commended on an amazing job. We all owe you one (or is it two? Three? :). Happy Rhodes is simply an unbelievable person. Listening to that interview, hearing her speaking voice for the first time and getting to experience what she's like as a human being transcended wonderful. She tells it like it is, doesn't she? :) She seems like someone I'd love to have over for tea and hang out with babbling about everything and nothing for a while- hmm, if I ever need to call AG in the near future, she might answer instead of Kevin... and we have Reach Out America now.... :) What struck me more than anything was how sure of herself she was. I'd heard she's shy and all that, but she sure didn't sound it when she was talking to you, Vickie! That may be because she knew you, I haven't heard the WXPN interview, so I can't tell. I got a better picture of where she's coming from, and a burning desire enkindled to interview her on my show sometime soon. Speaking of which, I did my normal show this morning, and decided to forget the fact that "Warpaint" is over 6 minutes long, it's worth it, and play it. Just after I went off the air a guy called and said he'd been in his car so he hadn't been near a phone, but what *was* that song, who *is* this woman, and where can he get the album? I gave him the AG address and as much info as I could remember (I should start bringing a copy of the FAQ down to the station with me, I guess!), and my day was made. That's twice that's happened. I put an official review on the CD itself, so maybe more people will pay attention to it and play it on their shows. *SPOILER ALERT* Ahem. I LOVE the song she sent especially for the SiG! I was listening to it walking across campus in a hailstorm, and it seemed to fit the mood perfectly. And the Bartlett/Rhodes stuff is interesting, but I think I'm glad they decided to bag it. It didn't seem to fit Happy very well, I'll figure out why later. And talk about a fuzzy-blue feeling, listening to a song she sent herself for the exclusive enjoyment of us Ectophiles. I really have to say I'm glad this Ecto entity exists. It's not too much fun being an active Katefan anymore, at least I have someone to obsess over who is at least accessible, and who knows my name and who I can take an active part in promoting... Oh- before I end this Vickie, a note about Cocteau Twins confusion: A German friend of mine gave me the _Heaven or Las Vegas_ CD last year for Christmas. She said she'd found it in the Heavy Metal section!!! I don't know, these German record stores... ;) P.S. Klaus, thanks for posting the Rainbirds concert report. THE ECCENTRIC LIFE OF A BRILLIANT ENGINEER PROLOGUE: ========= Reflecting over the past couple of weeks, I've concluded that Ecto is more than just a mailing list for some brilliant, yet obscure artist. It's almost ... a family. I mean, think about it: We know each others birthdays, a few of our eccentricities, and we even have an Ecto mom (Vickie). These personal touches are what separate us from the myriad (and mundane) news groups. Reflecting on the "family", I thought it might be interesting to peek in and observe "A Day In The Life" of one of it's members (be a fly on the wall, so to speak). Let us make our subject one Harry David Foster, brilliant engineer, extraordinaire. With this in mind, let us proceed ... ACT I - SCENE I: =============== February 4, 1992 6:32 AM Reflecting over his visage in the mirror, our subject winces from the pain of a newly-inflicted razor cut. Damn, as that Shakespeare dude once said, "Unthrifty loveliness, why dost thou spend Upon thyself thy beauty's legacy?" SCENE II: ======== 11:49 AM Next, we see our subject seated before his "Sun" god, mind engaged in higher thought, fingers flying over the keyboard to the sound of Happy singing "I am a Legend". Next, Jorn elaborating on his ecto-warmroom post. Hmmm, warmroom, great idea! However, having only limited time, mbox space, and capacity for euphoria, I'm afraid I'll have to pass. Still, any dude who quotes James Joyce in his .sig is okay in my book. :) Let's see what's up with Vishal. Good, he want's to meet for lunch tomorrow ... Ethiopian food. The great thing about Vishal is his interesting taste in restaurants, movies, and dogs. So what if he usually dresses in black, plays Diamanda Galas at full volume for the shock factor, and has permitted Marilyn to corrupt his musical taste with that "industrial music" noise. :) He's still one of my closest friends. How could he not be, after all, he did turn me onto Happy. : SCENE III: ======== 7:05 Later that same evening, we see our subject bid a fond farewell to his faithful friend, Violet, who complains about his desertion with a heartrending, "Ahooooooo" (Ain't nothin but a hound dog). Driving back to work after dinner, frantically ripping open his package from the Ecto-mom. Great, my HPG tapes Vol I and II, and a note from Vickie. Hey Harry! I stole your _cool_ cassette inserts. (I hope you can easily replace them!) They are _GREAT_. Vickie. Hey, I know better than talk back to my Ecto-mom ... :) Next we see our subject reach for the Vol. II tape. He inserts the cassette into his car stereo ... and ... and ... the cassette jams! Finally, we see our subject's eyes reflected in the car mirror, his hand is yanking on the jammed cassette, and he's yelling at the top of his lungs DAMN! Date: Wed, 5 Feb 92 5:36:57 CST Vickie here. Waaaaah! As of this writing, my birthday list and another post about talking to Happy and getting their new Promotions guru on Ecto hasn't appeared. Maybe they will later, so I won't re-post them yet, but Stephen, I *really*did* remember your birthday! Pooh! I had yet a third post that hasn't shown up yet either so if it doesn't by the time this appears, I definitely want to say ***WELCOME*** to Finnegan! And ***THANKS*** to Bob for typing in the WXPN Express article. So sorry we clashed, and I very much appreciate your work. Well, thanks bunches for all the nice things people are saying about the Ecto SiG!! It's a nice feeling to know that you are having so much fun with it all. A couple of related things...first, not everyone got keychains because I ran out :-( but everyone *did* get Happy photos. If anyone did not, it was pure brain-damage and *please* let me know! I have about 50 of those photos left, so you're certainly due one. Also, I have the lyrics to WtRCD on-line. I'll post them when our Aussiephile says he has his tape in hand. Since he's the farthest he'll probably be the last to get his. Martin! Let us know when you mail carrier hands you that fuzzy blue package, ok? I have no Bartlett/Rhodes lyrics, so you all can work on those. Send them to me and I'll double-check 'em with Happy before they're put in the archives. I'm absolutely *astounded*amazed*incredulous that the tapes are getting to everyone so quickly!! Even overseas! I'm knocked out! It's as if the Post Office wanted to make up for the HGP snafus. They're doing a very good job. I think I'll call the PO and congratulate them. Remember, anyone who wants to get a copy of this Ecto SiG tape can, just send me a 100 minute tape and a return mailer and postage, or postage and a dollar for the mailer. Meredith, Happy *is* extraordinarily shy, she is just a) very good at not showing it. b) comfortable. We'd had lots of phone conversations before that one and I tried to make the interview be like just another one. I had a comment from someone that the interview was unprofessional. Well, yeah, I wasn't out to win any journalism awards, I just wanted to talk to Happy and let my listeners "peek" in. c) extremely articulate and assured in what she says, shy or not. The whole thing, including songs I played and PSA announcements, lasted an hour, so she had plenty of time to get used to it. More after I've read the digests more thoroughly. Vickie ps, The concert in Albany *is* definitely on the 18th. pps, Doug! Yay! Yay!
