I can't seem to find it anywhere, in fact, I haven't even seen it since I moved to California last year. You guys are my last resort. SInce I have luckily not been plagued by depression, I tended to like NIN without feeling directly connected to it. STill, if I've had a bad day and am in a foul mood, cranking up a NIN disc is a cathartic experience, and helps blast me out of it. Oddly enough, Down In It tends to make me feel Up Above It. (Other useful discs for me have historically been the Sex Pistols and - uh - The Clancy Brothers.) Another pick me up was an incredible song by a MD local band called OHO, which plummeted in interest when lead singer Grace Hearn left for Seatle. Did she do anything up there? She formed a very boring duo (from what I've heard) with her boyfriend called Hand to Mouth. I'm looking forward to heading home and turning my roommates tv on for the first time in a week to watch the D^2 show. Happy holidays to those who are celebrating. Happy days off to those who get them. Happy Wednesday (and Thursday and ...) for everyone else. I'd just like to direct the appropriate hugs to the appropriate hugee. Jess was the poor soul who had the license nightmare (which seems to have worked out ok in the end) and I'm sure she felt everyone cared, even if she didn't hear from everybody on the list. Speaking of licenses, when we moved to Chicago in 1990 I went into the local office to get my Kansas license changed to an Illinios license. I took the written test, eye exam, filled out all the paperwork and paid my fee. I also had to surrender my Kansas license. After all that, they refused to give me license because I didn't have anything with my Social Security number on it! Some states require your SS# to be on the driver's license, but not Kansas. Pfft! I intended to write to Kansas to get a copy of my SS card, but because we didn't have a car, and I didn't really *need* a license, I never got around to it. A few months ago I was looking through family photo albums (in yet another attempt to "find my past" and figure out why I feel no connection whatsoever to the little girl in those photos. It didn't work this time either) and out fell my Social Security card! I wasn't even looking for it! When Charley decided to rent a car to go to Toronto, I figured I'd better get my license in order just in case I got stopped while driving. I went back to the License bureau, armed with my SS card and the paperwork from before, certain that I'd leave with a gen-u-ine Illinois driver's license. No such luck. The first problem was that all the previous paperwork was out-of-date. Ok, it wouldn't have been a problem to take the tests again, fill out more paperwork and pay another fee, and I was willing. Nope, the *real* kicker was that my Social Security card, which I got when I was 14, had the name "Vickie Ann Thompson" on it, while all my other paperwork, including my passport, has "Vickie Ann Mapes" on it. Because of that, they refused to continue processing my liscnse request. Argh! I was asked if I had brought either a marriage license or a divorce decree with me. Uh, sorry, not only do I not carry such things around, I don't even know where they *are*. Jeez! I was married in 1973 and divorced in 1978. I kept my married name because of my son, and this is the first time it's caused me a problem. Needless to say, I didn't get a license, but luckily I wasn't stopped while driving in Canada, so there wasn't a problem. I gotta change my name one of these days, I really do. My son's 20 years old, and it makes no difference to him. It's a loose end I have to tie up. One of these days...(of course). I don't really blame the Illinois License department, they're only doing their job. I realize they have to protect against criminals using stolen documents from getting new IDs. I'm just letting off some steam about it. > I sincerely hope that I can *make* the time to join some of the future > discussions on Ecto. I just browsed through the main track in jumps of 5 seconds and couldn't find anything. Can you be more specific about the position of that part now? But see to it that you get both! They really should have been one volume, and the break at half of the story is extremely frustrating when you don't have the 2nd around. Which of course happened to me; I had to wait for the 2nd to be released, and I seriously thought about not buying "Fall" because I considered it very audacious to finish a book in such a state. Michael ======================================================================== Date: Wed, 22 Dec 93 18:05:13 PST From: Neal Copperman Subject: Re: stuff Hi Vickie! Are you sure my birth certificate wasn't in that album of yours? I actually needed it last year when I got my CA drivers license. The fact that I had a valid MD one (and a DOD ID card with my fingerprints on it!!!!!) wasn't enough identification to get a drivers license. I had to go down the block to the SOcial Security building, where they asked me what my number was and my mom's name was, looked at my MD drivers license, and filled out a simple little form that I could easily scan into a computer and give away at the border. This paper, when presented to the DMV, was adequate for me to get a license. Now I needed it since I decided I was going to spend Christmas weekend in Baja, and you need a travel permit, which requires a passport or birth certificate. You also need a birth certificate to get a passport, so I'm still stuck. I do have the phone number to call in Maine to get another one sent out for only ten bucks, but I suspect it won't get here before the weekend. Guess I'll just have to go somewhere else (Death Valley is still calling me as the appropriate holiday vacation spot.) Neal (or at least that's who I think I am. I may not be able to prove it to the proper authorities though.) ======================================================================== Date: Wed, 22 Dec 1993 22:01:12 -0400 (EDT) From: ROBNPAM@delphi.com Subject: Jeopardy Statistics According to the latest ish of TV Guide...
