Seasons Greetings to Happy people everywhere! Martin here. Well, after a couple of days of belly-bashing with the family I'm off on holidays to get my head straightened out. I catch the plane tonight to the other side of Australia, there to wander about the sun-drenched beaches under palm trees doing as much nothing with as little effort as I can manage. I'll be there until the 20th of January or so, so hopefully I'll come back to a pile of Happy stuff - my new copy of Warpaint, my new copy of Rearmament, possibly a Chrissie Card from Happy, a HGP tape, a SiG tape, perhaps even a premier edition copy of Ectozine (nudge nudge :-). Yeah! It's almost worth not going at all! Almost. :-) Re: Suzanne Vega's first album Yeparoony, this is one great album... the songs I keep coming back for are Small Blue Thing, Queen and the Soldier, and Do You Love Me?. I wouldn't agree that "If So" is much like "Small Blue Thing", but then "If So" is one of my favorite Happy songs. Re: Concert songs. Yeparoony once again, most of my songs have already been mentioned, except "If So"... She'd HAVE to play that. Unfortunately, I don't think I'm going to be able to make it over to the U.S. in time. :-( :-( :-| I may have to wait for "Happy Rhodes - the World Tour". Hurry up and get famous, Happy! Re: Religious experiences I'm not big on religion, (my cousin gave me a "Merry Atheistmas" card) but I listened to the Ecto album yesterday at full volume while lying out on the roof in a cool still summer late afternoon, watching the sun set, and by the time "To Be E. Mortal" came on I think I nearly had what people call a religious experience. Hoooo weee... Dat's DAMN fine music... :-) I gotta go pack... See ya, people. Somehow we forgot to send our holiday wishes on the list, so we hope that you had a wonderful time anyway. Once again you have been informed what we were doing, this time by Angelos and Vickie, which we met in person and voice. We had a great time with Angelos, and it got quite late the other morning. When I mentioned that I tried to call Vickie the day before, Angelos suggested to call her to try it again, and this time we managed to get Vickie and Chris on the phone. How great to talk to you! Here is my list of songs from the 1st4 that I would like to hear on a concert (but I won`t :( , so you have to hear them for me :): - Oh the drears - Possessed Claudia here. Me too I'm somewhat embarrassed we forgot to wish you all happy holidays. When we last posted Christmas still seemed so far away. So, although belated, have wonderful holidays, all of you, and (in time this time!!) a very good new year!! We spent Christmas exploring some of this to us very new continent. Well, we didn't get much further than southern Maine ... ahem. It was really wonderful!! Lots of beautiful landscape, sun, snow, mostly-not-too-cold weather, an extraordinarily nice inn with nice people, great food. No plans for new years eve yet, I'll see Klaus leaving in the evening, and afterwards I`ll probably curl up with my walkman and cry. Maybe. See you in ecto ... Claudia & Klaus. ======================================================================== From: guetzlaf@gravity.cray.com (Cathy Guetzlaff) Subject: The holidays Date: Fri, 27 Dec 91 13:30:43 CST Happy Holidays everybody! One thing I really like about this time of year is that I can finally get some work done without interruptions. I'll be gone next week when the rest of the crew will be back, so I'm at the office right now catching up on a few things. New Year's Eve plans? Well, my partner and I own a cabin and 40 acres of land in northwestern Wisconsin. We'll head up there to avoid the craziness of the city. The land we own has a half mile of frontage on the Totogatic River, is quite heavily wooded, and for us has a very spiritual feel to it in a maternal sort of way (does that make sense to any of you???). There is very much a Native American influence on these parts which for me helps explain why the land feels as it does -- there's a reverence towards Nature -- we're often humbled by the majesty of the land. Nothing can describe the feeling of canoeing down the Totogatic being lead by a bald eagle who waits around the bend for us to catch up, and then swoops ahead around the next turn. We've spent many a night gazing upwards through the trees watching the Northern Lights shimmer and dance -- magical! Or watching the sunset as the first loons cry out into the dusk...damn it, I want to be there now. The CD player will be packed -- so will 'Warpaint'. I plan on doing lots of cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, fishing (the river doesn't freeze), reading, and sitting in front of the fireplace on those cold nights, sipping some good wine (hmmmmm, maybe this is the time to break out the bottle of Cakebread Cab), and listening to some good music. I hope all of you have a safe restful holiday -- looking forward to more good music in '92! -- Cathy Guetzlaff Cray Research, Inc. guetzlaf@cray.com ======================================================================== Date: Fri, 27 Dec 91 14:34:07 EST From: spix%sparc6a@harvard.harvard.edu (Claudia Spix) Subject: PS: HAPPY Holdidays Claudia (and Klaus) here again, how could we have forgotten this!! We got our cards from Happy the day we left. Great! The Santa-cap is certainly drawn in, we even hypothesize the "Happy Holidays" could have been added later. Yeah, I agree, Happy doesn't seem to be too inclined to smiles, but the underlying silliness of this card clearly shows a GREAT sense of humor. Klaus put his in his wallet along with my photo (now, should I be jealous or what? ;), I stuck mine on the wall along with other Christmas cards, it's going to be one of the things that WON'T end up in a bin when I leave. I am currently writing a program to track all my CDs and cassette tapes. Although it is in its rough stages, I would like to make it available to anyone who is interested. The program currently allows you to enter all the album information (Title, Artist, Category, Format, etc.) as well as track information (track#, title, running time, etc.). The program will then allow you to obtain different print outs (master track listing, master album listing, etc.). I'm also working on a feature to help make compilation tapes. It'll let you enter the tracks you want and the size of the tape and it will tell you at which song you should turn the tape over so that no song gets cut off. I want to make this a shareware program in the future, but I'd like to let my friends in ECTO have it (free of course) if: 1) you tell me about bugs 2) give me your opinions and suggestions for enhancements I think the program will be pretty cool when it is done. I already have a rough working version of it and I already entered a lot of my CDs. I wrote this for myself because I have never seen anything around like it. A friend of mine said she would be interested it, so I thought maybe some Ectophiles might as well. (The only drawback to this system is that you have to enter all the information! My fingers went numb when I was done entering my CD's!) If you are interested in trying this out (when version 1.0 is ready), please let me know.
