Hi! Well, if it makes you feel better, Doug, I haven't bought anything remotely musical since July. Actually, I haven't bought anything outside of food, books for class, a T-shirt I couldn't resist, and blank tapes since July. I am, however, keeping a list of all the things discussed over here. Woj, I think you really do have a reason to be afraid of the day when I enter the real world, have a source of income, and descend upon the first unsuspecting record store I see! ;> Re "Feed the Fire" and "hooks": I can see that, and it makes sense. But "Waking Up" has a hook too: the opening synths and the funky stuff in the chorus. There must be something there- it hooked me, and has hooked others too. I'm going over to Love-Hounds to expand on this, but I heard "Candle in the Wind" today. Twice- we discovered the first turntable we tried it on (this was the 7'') was running at about 47 rpm, and went into the other studio and tried again. What did I think? Well, she tried. I can't think of more to say about it than that. I'm going to say this here because if I go into expectations I'll get fried over there, but I was hoping she'd do it with an acoustic piano (I have always HATED electric pianos) and sing it in her "Under the Ivy" voice. Foiled again. There'll be a new album in a year, right? :) Off to study for Final #2 (kIrI, I know!!! :) *---------------------------------------------------------* | Meredith Tarr | | *** | | "I want to be a scholar, but I really can't be bothered | | Ooh just gimme it quick, gimme gimme gimme"- Kate Bush | | *** | | mtarr@eagle.wesleyan.edu | *---------------------------------------------------------* ======================================================================== Date: Tue, 17 Dec 91 11:17:31 +0000 From: Steve Fagg Subject: Comms Glitch Mitch (U15289@uicvm.bitnet) wrote: > On a totally unrelated matter: I've gotten a couple of bounce messages today, > that we're not getting through to Steve Fagg at the moment. READ THIS, IT MIGHT SAVE TIME... In some cases here, I have the songs in my own collection. To save time, since getting Happy's copy to her is more important than Ectophiles getting theirs back right away, Angelos, Perttu and Steve VanD will be sending their tapes later, and I'll play the songs they chose from my own copies. If you want to include a song and you think I might have it in my collection, then e-mail me ASAP and I can include it. Then you can send your blank tape, assuming you want a copy for yourself, at your leisure. Even if you think I might not have the song, you could be right, but I have a huge collection, so it's worth a try asking. COOL IDEA ALERT! Steve VanDevender also wanted to record a message to Happy. We came up with the brilliant idea of having Steve call our home, and leave his message on our answering machine. It worked, we have it, and it will go on the HGP. If anyone else, who doesn't have audio equipment to record voice messages, wants to send a personal message to Happy that way, I'll splice it in. END COOL IDEA ALERT! The ball is rolling... Vickie vickie@chinet.chi.il.us ps, our phone number is (312) 508-5283 (508-KATE). We answer the phone when we're here, in which case you could immediately call back and we'll turn the machine on. If we leave, we'll turn the machine on. If you get a busy signal, that means we're on-line, and you'll have to try again. Don't worry about what time it is. 4:00am or 4:00pm...we could care less. Honestly, we stay up until all hours of the night, and even if we're asleep, we're the easy types who absolutely do not mind being woken up. ======================================================================== Date: Tue, 17 Dec 91 03:58 CST From: vickie@chinet.chi.il.us (Vickie Ann Mapes) Subject: One more thing...(HGP) Vickie again, I forgot to add, for those who want to leave a message on the answering machine, you'll have to make the message short. I was trying to do something similar by decoding e-mail address (I gave up early). Your list confirms my suspicion of some huge voids in the United States. Five Guys Named Moe is one of the many American bands who started their career in Europe. They recorded their first (and only?) album in Dublin and Glasgow in 1989. Both Meg Lunney and Jonathan Evans have good voices and there are no weak songs on the album. Songs are very melodic and happy. Sometimes it sounds almost like Housemartins with Jane Siberry on the vocals. Meg Lunney studied in Finland as an exchange student for a year and learned some finnish. So she sings the last song on the album in finnish and it sounds very weird to me. I get only half of the words. > I ask because they are playing in Chicago New Years Eve.
