Thanks, Mitch, for the clarification- the VCR is taping SNL even as I type. :) Thanks again to everyone who has sent me questions for use in my interview with Happy this coming Tuesday. You can keep 'em coming in until late Monday afternoon, so go for it! Today I acquired a tape of live Jane Siberry (thanks Tamar! ;), and that got me listening to Jane for the first time in about a year. I must admit that when I got her stuff last year it didn't really do that much for me- I liked it fine, but it didn't scream at me to play it when I was looking for something to listen to. Now I'm on The Speckless Sky after listening to No Borders Here, and everything is just CLICKING, and I can't believe I wasn't totally into it before! It's strange. I'm sure I'll be listening to it a lot more in the near future, and a lot more closely, too. Wow. (I'm sure that made Vickie's day. ;) Glad to hear the festivities in Montreal went well- hey guys, if you'd just had them on a date Americans could make it, there would've been more of us there! ;> Hm... I'm not doing radio tomorrow because I've got other Easter-related plans, but there are lots more playlists to pull out of the archives. I think I'll dust off the St. Paddy's Day Special next. Be Warned! Vickie ======================================================================== Date: Sun, 11 Apr 93 12:17:24 BST From: GTP10@phx.cam.ac.uk Subject: "Equipoise" Nth Impression I finally received a copy of "Equipoise" on Thursday and it was well worth the wait. Firstly, because Happy was kind enough to sign my booklet, and, secondly, because it is IMHO her best work to date. It has hardly left my CD player since it arrived. I don't think I'll ever tire of listening to it. It is just gorgeous. My favourite track... Save Our Souls. On Thursday evening I visited some friends to play bridge and filled with missionary zeal took along "Equipoise" to play to them all. I've played other Happy albums to them in the past, and, although no one ever complained, they never elicited the same response. "Equipoise" spent 3 hours in the CD player and I'm now faced with organising an order for 3 more copies and requests to borrow the other 5 discs while I'm away in Germany this and next week. :-) Geoff Parks PS Vickie, did you receive my request to send a FAQ file to my friend Tim? ======================================================================== Date: Sun, 11 Apr 93 8:28 EDT From: robert@deepspace.nj00802.sai.com (Robert Lovejoy) Subject: Ghost Radio A-Ha! Today I made a few copies of Happy's radio interviews from two weeks ago. I have to say her performances, especially on the WMMR tape, are exquisite! I hope Doug has the MMR tape by now, and that he won't make you all wait too long! The WYSP tape is about an hour; WMMR's runs less than 25 min. Happy's acoustic "Feed The Fire" is so stunning; she drops bits of Yes, Kate, and Bowie into the song (I think that's Bowie...). Just stunning. All the performances are so assured on that MMR tape. On WYSP, she may have been a little nervous (it was live on the air)... I just hope everyone on the list can get tapes fast! Those in Philly, contact me if you need copies! Anybody see PG on SNL last night? Again, I have tape - VHS HiFi at SP, so I can make dupes (You out there Chris ??) I thought he put in two excellent performances - but what was Tony Levin wearing on his fingers? I've played bass for years and never saw that before! Also, Tony's work on the electric upright for "In Your Eyes" was amazing! (BTW the other song was "Steam". There was some neat-o choreography going on as well! I wish the whole show had been Gabriel and his band! Anyway, for PG fans without access, I can copy the 2 songs to a short tape and skip the rest of SNL, unless you want to see it...(Sorry,NTSC 3.58 is all I can do...) The post I wrote this morning was returned from somewhere. I'll check the next two digests and if it's not on one I'll resend whatever may have possibly been remotely worth digesting... Strange are the ways of the net. Also returned from somewhere was a post I'd written over a week ago. I think it made it to the digest, though. It will not see me stopping here to watch the net fill up with snow... Strange are the ways of myself. Backwards talk I. One thing I said in the AM post worth repeating is thanks for all the help with radio info. I'll pass on your info to Susanne. Keep your ears to the skies... And, being a total gooberhead, I didn't save 'em all when they came across the net back in February (largely thanks to Angleos and Vickie, with a smidgeon of help from me). In fact, I'm such a gooberhead that I don't even have a file with the two songs I typed in! I'm in the process of putting together "liner notes" for a couple of samplers I made for a friend, and being a good friend, I always do detailed liner notes (with info about the bands, lyrics when available, and so forth). But I'm way too lazy to retype the lyrics. I'm hoping that a) someone will be kind and e-mail me the lyrics I posted to He Will Come/The Flight and b) that someone will concatenate all the lyrics into one file and send it to the archive so others won't be in the spot of trouble I'm in. Your help will be greatly appreciated. Jeff |Jeffrey C. Burka | "Fairies are the perfect people to do this | |SAFH Lite [tm] | sort of work. I just sent the full set of lyrics to Jessica to be put into the archives. I sent the lyrics of the songs seperately, and I sent them concatenated. Plus, there's a file of just album credits. Everything you need is there (or will be as soon as Jess makes a place for them.) I'm sorry it took me so long to get this done. Quite a while ago I got hung up on transcribing "Runners" and never finished it. I did that tonight. There's a ton of stuff on this album that doesn't show up in the lyrics, especially in Runners (which I think I got everything in there), Closer (which is still "unfinished"), The Flight (what *does* she sing there???) and SOS, which I took a guess at. "Well, there's a beacon in the sky, meant to catch the rye" ....which makes little sense to me, but it's the best I could come up with. I've read "Catcher in the Rye" (HC always pissed me off because he hated movies so much) but it's literally been at least 20 years. Is anyone more familiar, and/or updated, who can tell me if that line makes any sense in the context of the song? All the rest of the lyrics got posted in Ecto, so I may as well send Runners and SOS too. Hey Geoff! Great!!
