It's the beginning of the show Dar nerves. She warmed up right away, and the crowd warmed up to her fast as well. And she mentioned afterwards that she most likely will return to the UK this summer and next December! I loved it, of course. :) I'm writing a full rev iew, which will go to one of the webzines I write for. I was less sure about Jim Bryson, though -- the opening act. I think he has potential, but... > > The important new, however, is that the INDIGO GIRLS > are > coming back to LONDON!!! This is the FIRST TIME in > SIX > YEARS That long? Wow. I have tickets already, yes, I do!!! The only drag is that it's a work day, and I can't take off. I wonder how long the queue will be... I will get there asap after work. I also have tickets to Melissa Etheridge at the London Dominion -- the Saturday after IG! IG and Melissa in the same week. :) I'm now broke... ;) Btw, I went into London last night to see Bill Jones at the Borderline. I've been reading all about her (yes, Bill is short for Belinda), and I have her CDs; I've wanted to see her live for about a year. She has an incredible voice. Sometimes it seems a little too sweet (she reminds me of Cara Dillon), but she can handle the aggressive numbers. She's into traditional music; some of it is updated in a Fairport/Steeleye sort of way. She also did a couple of covers last night -- Carole King, Kate Bush (she admitted that as a teen, there were two years that she wailed about the house singing only Kate Bush), Andy Irvine, and Buffy Ste. Marie. The title track from her latest full-length album, *Panchpuran*, is one a new benefit album, *Article 14* - -- monies going to funds for asylum seekers, etc. Opening for her was Sam Genders, an up and coming singer-songwriter from the Midlands. He didn't impress me at first, but as he grew more comfortable with his set, I found myself liking him. Ellen ===== "Literature stops in 1100. Phillips" Subject: "Hearing Voices" I just got this Will Ackerman (Windham Hill) CD today, on which Happy has the first track, "Before We Left This All Behind". Yummy vocals, as usual. :-) I hope this helps her get a little more exposure, too. The Auntie Social URL is in the liner notes. :-) The rest of this album is superb too! Well, I would've bought it just for Happy's track; but I saw that Heather Rankin is one of the other vocalists on the album, so *that* was a plus (I am a BIG fan of The Rankin Family/The Rankins!). I can see I am going to be playing this CD a lot! fleur ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 06 Dec 2001 22:39:14 -0500 From: Valerie Richardson Subject: Susan McKeown/Johnny Cunningham concert video available as a webcast The Kennnedy Center in Washington has a video archive of its past performances available at: http://www.kennedy-center.org/programs/millennium/archive.html#search There is a video of a Susan McKeown/Johhny Cunningham performance from 2000 available (55 minutes). I can't figure out the exact URL since it's framed, but you can do a search. I was sad not to be able to see Susan at her performance here in Connecticut tonight, so finding this was a nice surprise. I see that Susan and Johnny are performing there again this coming Thursday at the Millennium Stage (free, 6:00 p.m.). They seem to have videos of scads of other performers in their archives, everyone from Jennifer Kimball to the U.S. Field Band Army Chamber Ensemble. - --Valerie Richardson ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 6 Dec 2001 22:13:29 -0600 From: Joseph Zitt Subject: Re: Susan McKeown/Johnny Cunningham concert video available as a webcast On Thu, Dec 06, 2001 at 10:39:14PM -0500, Valerie Richardson wrote: > There is a video of a Susan McKeown/Johhny Cunningham performance from > 2000 available (55 minutes).
