How can you go wrong with a song that starts like this? James became my lover on the day when he refused To saw me through the middle "Whoever thought of that trick," he said "Had a sick mind" >Laurianne Fiorentino ... ah, the local fave! Well, I did wake up screaming when it happened. The car took about $4500 damage and is supposedly nearing the end of it's 4 week stay in the shop. Was being painted today. Tomorrow they promise to make sure it runs ok, that there was no mechanical damage, and that the tires are ok. Seems funny to me that they haven't done that stuff prior to now. Then, assuming that all that other stuff doesn't turn up anything, they'll give it back on Friday. (Did I mention that they kept trying to give me a Cadilac as my rental car? When I said I didn't want anything that big, they spent the rest of the day looking for a suitable car before finally deciding on a Suburban!) The city replaced the signs quickly. The cable box is still in a shambles. My neighbor cleaned up all his debris but is still without a fence. Her singing as beautiful as ever, now that she's off the soapbox. The songs are catchy, the lyrics ambitous--a mystical Southern Gothic flavor is pepper throughout. Rootsy, r&b inflected music--imagine Sandy Denny covering the best of Gladys Knight soul ballads, with Flannery O'Connor and Eudora Welty writing the words. - --Craig ===== "I hope that Cream of Tartar isn't what I think it is..."--Rita Rudner Find the one for you at Yahoo! Pretty much everything I'd recommend can be found on Projekt records' "Excelsis" albums (http://www.projekt.com/projekt/product.asp?sku=PROexBOX). Not everything on them can really be considered ecto-ish, but there are probably at least 10 songs that are. You might also want to look at "Count Your Blessings," a live recording featuring Holly Cole, Rebecca Jenkins, Mary Margaret O'Hara, Jane Siberry, and Victoria Williams, although it didn't do much for me personally. Burka" Subject: Re: christmas album I wouldn't consider a holiday album complete without Susan McKeown's "Auld Lang Syne" from her album with Linday Horner, _Through the Bitter Frost and Snow_. Of course, almost anything on that album would be worthwhile, along with the other obvious winter collections from Loreena McKennitt (_To Drive the Cold Winter Away_ and _A Winter Garden_). Another good song might be "The Closing of the Year" from the _Toys_ soundtrack (worth having anyway...I still need to replace my copy since my dad has been unwilling to give mine back for some three years now). jeff n.p. _This Way_, Jewel Kilcher ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Nov 2001 10:18:29 -0500 From: Gary Davis Subject: Re: Left Hand Demos At 01:55 AM 11/15/01 -0500, Alexander wrote: > >I know, I might be really late ... but how can I get my hands on a copy of >Happy4s so called throw aways ?!? > LOL!!! I was just wondering if anybody's been listening to the new Stina Nordenstam / Hope Sandoval / Natalie Merchant albums, went into a record store the other day to be confronted by all 3 at once in the new release stands !!! Kinda broke so I just got Hope Sandoval who was on 33% discount for some odd reason. It's very good, the songwriting has improved and the sound is even more stark than that of Mazzy Star, some great Bert Jansch guitar on a couple of tracks and overall a more acoustic sound to Mazzy Starr. Dying to hear the new Stina album, didn't even realise it was due, there doesn't seem to be any fansites for her anymore ? andrew _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Nov 2001 01:52:43 -0500 (EST) From: breinheimer@webtv.net (bill) Subject: Re: rebuild the wall AdamK and Tim Jasnau both expressed an interest in Luther Wright's reinterpretation of the venerable Pink Floyd release. I have to warn you though; the review is highly unfavorable. remember those quiet evenings np-absolutely nothing.
