That's pretty damn scary! I don't think Preston Klik is hacking into my system, but... Sorry about the sucky sound. If I listen at home I'm hearing my own MP3s, which generally sound pretty good, but now I'm getting a taste of how it really sounds. I'm also getting to know what it's like to ride the volume since both sound and work-compatible content is so variable. Interesting experience. Most of the artists on the "short list" (which, BTW, is sponsored by Virgin Megastore) are on major labels. I suspect Happy would be thrilled to sell as many copies as PJ Harvey or Nikka Costa, or to get as much media hype as Ryan Adams or Sigur Ros. For the record, the artists are PJ Harvey, Bilal, Dandy Warhols, Air, Talib Kweli, Sigur Ros, Ryan Adams, Jay Dee, Gorillaz, and Nikka Costa. There's also a "longlist" of all the artists who were considered for the award. - --Sue T. np: NPR nr: Jonathan Lethem, MOTHERLESS BROOKLYN ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Nov 2001 12:45:31 -0800 From: Greg Bossert Subject: Re: ecto-digest V7 #313 snarfed my tea on that one ;) 'nough to wake the lurking, it was... - -g ('tah) On Monday, November 5, 2001, at 06:38 PM, Joseph Zitt wrote: > On Mon, Nov 05, 2001 at 08:55:11PM -0500, Dracovixen@aol.com wrote: >> No, no, you have it all wrong. Once again Joss Whedon and the crew have produced an amazing episode - perhaps my favourite thus far. (I'm a late adopter of the show, though; I only started watching at the beginning of season four.) I mention this only because Tara's voice seemed very ecto-ish to me. Her love song to Willow was fabulous; my favourite number in the show, though there were a lot of great bits to choose from. Earl J. Her >love song to Willow was fabulous; my favourite number in the show, though >there were a lot of great bits to choose from. Funny, I just finished posting to the Buffy list I'm on about this amazing, brilliant episode. All of the cast members did their own singing, with varied results. Since Anthony Stewart Head (Giles) has a musical theater background (I'd have LOVED to see his Dr. Frank-n-furter in London), I was expecting him to school the rest of the cast in how it's done, but Amber Benson (Tara) just blew me away. The girl can *sing*!! Yow. I agree that Tara's love ditty to Willow was one of the musical high points, though so far Buffy's "into the fire" number is my favorite. (Sarah Michelle Gellar did a surprisingly good job.) Hard to believe Joss Whedon had never written a lick of music before this, isn't it? The man is a god. I hear there will be a soundtrack CD, though not immediately due to legal silliness. I'll be anxiously awaiting it. In the meantime, I guess I'll just have to wear out my VHS copy of the episode. :) ======================================= Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth "an eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind" -- mahatma gandhi ======================================= Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://www.smoe.org/meth/muzak.html ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V7 #319 **************************
