Hi all, I'm posting this cuz I think it might be ecto friendly. This show is in Chicago but if you want the whole tour schedule I would look at www.buckyballrecords.com The following show will be at Martyrs' in Chicago. 3855 N. Lincoln Ave. Phone number is (773) 404-9494 and tickets are available in advance at www.martyrslive.com or at the door the night of the show. Thursday, November 8th NUOVE MUSICHE and TUNNELS New projects from original BRAND X members. This show starts at 9pm and tickets are $15 In 1601 the Italian composer Giulio Caccini published a book of songs and entitled it Le Nuove Musiche, or The New Music. These songs introduced a new way to interpret spoken text, and led to a revolution in singing style. Vocalist Sarah Pillow has extensive experience in the historically informed performance of early baroque song. This, however, was preceded by her study and performance as a jazz musician. After performing the two styles separately and making several recordings of early music, jazz and modern music, Sarah was inspired to put all these genres together and create her own version of Nuove Musiche. Joined by leading musicians of rock and jazz, Sarah Pillow has taken these beautiful songs from another world and brought them relevance in today's world. Her band features guitarist John Goodsall and bassist Percy Jones, founders of the pioneering fusion band BRAND X (along with drummer Frank Katz and midi-vibist Marc Wagnon). Opening the evening will be Percy's own instrumental jazz fusion trio TUNNELS. Michael Eisenberg - -- Outri Music Music Beyond Boundaries http://www.outremusic.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 14 Oct 2001 19:54:04 -0400 From: dave Subject: Philly area shows There were two shows in theaters just outside of Philadelphia Saturday night. At the Tower Theater in Upper Darby there was Tori Amos and Rufus Wainwright, while the Media Theatre in Media had Mary Fahl and Grey Eye Glances. I've been a huge Tori Fan for years, but have yet to see her live.. I was planning on seeing her this time around, but after hearing her latest work I had to pass.. and I have really no interest in seeing Rufus. On the other hand, I've wanted to see Mary Fahl for a long time, and I'm always up for a GEG show.. so off to Media it was... Mary was up first, her voice was perfect. The setlist consisted of songs from Lenses of Contact, some of the more popular October Project songs, and a few covers.. there was a Judy Collins song that I don't recall the name of, Tom Waits' Strange Weather, her encore was the Stones' As Tears Go By, and there was one song in Arabic that she said she almost didn't do because of recent events, but then figured, why the hell not?... it was lovely, and the tune reminded me a bit of She Moved Through the Fair, which makes me think how nice it would be to hear her do that one. GEG were great as always, doing songs from their various albums, usually with different arrangements than the originals, so that even songs I've heard a hundred times sounded fresh. They did two encores, when they returned for the first one keyboardist Dwayne Keith came on stage with a camcorder, getting some shots of the audience, he explained that he has been documenting the recording of their next album on video. They switched their big encore number with solos from each band member from their hit Halfway Back to their current single If I Was, which worked pretty well. For his solo guitarist Brett Kull sang Raindrops Keep Fallin' on my Head, and did a rather good job of it, and Jennifer Nobel sang Led Zep's Rock and Roll.. almost as cool as when they teamed up on the solo and ending to Stairway to Heaven last time I saw them.. So now I've seen GEG with November Project, and with Mary Fahl.. next time maybe with Marina Belica? dave ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 14 Oct 2001 23:11:46 -0400 From: Jeff Wasilko Subject: Dusty Trails I picked up their cd based on one of Amazon's recommendations. I didn't know anything about the band, but I liked what I heard. Dusty Trails are Vivian (Lucious Jackson's keyboard player) and Josephine (bassist for the Breeders). Their work is influenced by soundtracks...it's been a regular in my CD player since I picked it up over the summer. The song with Emmylou Harris doing guest vocals is really great... On this tour Tori has been playing almost exclusively material from her first 3 albums, sets have been *very* heavy on the _Little Earthquakes_ and _UTP_-era b-sides, with only 1 or 2 songs from the new one per night, and the shows have been the most amazing I've ever seen. Apparently the Philly show was particularly transcendent. We just got back from the CT show, and I need time to process before I can post about it... suffice it for now to say that it involved front-row center seats, "Flying Dutchman", meeting Tori afterwards and giving her an ectofest t-shirt, and I'm floating up there somewhere with the ISS right now. ======================================= Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth "an eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind" -- mahatma gandhi ======================================= Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://www.smoe.org/meth/muzak.html ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V7 #294 **************************
