From this Sunday's New York Times: "After years of being told that she's like a cartoon character, Ms. Gray is about to become one. A pilot and six episodes are now in production for a Saturday-morning cartoon series featuring a 12-year-old Ms. Gray, her neighborhood and her friends. 'We'll probably make up a lot of it," she said. "I was a pathological liar in my childhood, so most of it is miscombobulated. I didn't know what was real and what wasn't.'" - --Valerie Richardson ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 09 Sep 2001 13:47:07 -0400 From: "JoAnn Whetsell" Subject: Re: Bjork bites Zorak, film at thurtene just wondering... what is Space Ghost (Coast to Coast)? It's an animated spoof of the David Letterman show that has been on Cartoon Network for the past several years (though it hasn't had new episodes in a very long while). There was an action/adventure Saturday morning cartoon called Space Ghost in the 60s and 70s, where Space Ghost was a serious superhero in a spaceship that could go invisible and he was accompanied in his adventures by a boy named Jace, a girl named (um, blanking here - Jody?!) and a monkey. What they've done is taken Space Ghost and turned him into a buffoonish talk-show host, using bits of animation from the original show pasted over new backgrounds, and it's hilarious. His Paul Shaffer character is an imprisoned mantis named Zorak, who is always plotting his escape and/or Space Ghost's demise; the producer is Moltar; and the stage manager is a rather intellectually challenged character named Brak, who now has his own show that's pretty damned funny as well. They have real-life guests, like Thom Yorke and Bjork, and I think what they do is ask them straight questions, then keep the camera rolling when they're getting ready for the interview and in between questions and that sort of thing, and splice bits of it into the script so it all comes out being very surreal and silly. ======================================= Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth "things are more beautiful when they're obscure" -- veda hille ======================================= Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://www.smoe.org/meth/muzak.html ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 09 Sep 2001 21:41:32 -0400 From: meredith Subject: cyoakha comes to the house o'muzak Hi, Cyoakha and Krystov blew in to New Haven this afternoon, and a good time was had by all. It was a small, but appreciative audience and I daresay everyone enjoyed it. For two people, they managed to have the most elaborate setup of any house concert we've hosted so far. They brought their own electronics and sound system, and managed to hook up the effects boxes and pedals and sampler unit, plus mic the harmonium and vocals and didgeridoo (which mic also amplified the dulcimer when needed). It was very, very cool. In addition to Cy's deconstruction of "Feed The Fire", we also got to hear her deconstruction of "Deeper Understanding", which absolutely blew this ectophile away. They ended up playing for about a solid hour and a half, in two sets. There was much didg in my living room, which made me very, very happy. :) The dulcimer and the Casio and the harmonium and Cy's toys were all great too. :) We had a good time hanging out afterwards, too. Hopefully they'll end up coming back to this time zone in the relatively near future, and hopefully we can get them an Acoustic Cafe gig, since the owner's girlfriend was one of the more enthusiastic attendees today. :) ======================================= Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth "things are more beautiful when they're obscure" -- veda hille ======================================= Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://www.smoe.org/meth/muzak.html ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V7 #254 **************************
