It's a such a shame that there hasn't been a KonvenTion since 1994 because it was a great excuse for a UK Ecto Party. It was too unformed, and sprawling. The new cd, "Someday My Blues Will Cover the Earth," is wonderful. It has complete songs, most of them with an early r&b feel, thanks to Lovetta Pippin's rich voice. But this is HNIA, so it's discreetly updated with trip hoppy sound effects and the overall feel is contemplative and moody. It's Destiny's Child for the latte sipping crowd. (And I'm not sure that Beyonce can handle that). - --Craig ===== "Tired moons ask higher tides."--Zelda Fitzgerald Get email alerts & NEW webcam video instant messaging with Yahoo! After many months labour myself, Steve Jones and Ryan Camomile have managed to put together a site which will hopefully serve to inform and entertain. I intend to add music and further pages dealing with percussion in the future. Also the biography will be updated to include the years subsequent to Dead Can Dance signing to 4AD right up to the present day. I have been working on a new Dead Can Dance box set that will include radio sessions, unreleased material and rarities. It will also include a DVD of Toward The Within plus all the music videos that we have made. Release date is set for november this year and will be available on the Rhino/Warners label. The short film 'Mushin' is nearing completion. This is a ten minute long film that myself and Graham Wood have been working on. It is based on Kyudo, a Japanese form of zen archery. We hope to take it to some film festivals later this year and eventually license the film to various television networks. I have established a samba school here in Quivvy which took part in several outdoor festivals this summer. We are fifteen strong at present and are growing in number at a steady rate. We hope to include street performers, clowns, jugglers and firebreathers for next years season of carnival events. I will also be including open Samba workshops for all levels next year at Quivvy. Best Regards. Brendan ===== "Tired moons ask higher tides."--Zelda Fitzgerald Get email alerts & NEW webcam video instant messaging with Yahoo! It's a beautiful church with original stained glass created by Henri Matisse and Marc Chagall. It's a quick cab ride from the Sleepy Hollow Metro North station for those without a car. I, unfortunately, will be on vacation for that date, so I'll have to settle for the cramped, less-scenic Bottom Line shows later that week. If anyone goes to the Union church show, please share! I'm sorry I forgot! That was a wonderful thing, and I'll never forget how it made me feel. We all had a wonderful time at your party in Cambridge (though I spent a bit too much money at the record fair - a dangerous place!) and at the KonvenTion. You're a wonderful host. Maybe someday... Greetings, Here is the web site for an organization that all musicians and listeners should check out: This is an organization addressing issues of digital copyright and file trading. It is run by Jenny Toomey, who used to be in the DC-area band Tsunami. They view technologies like Napster as offering independent artists a way around the corporate stranglehold on distribution and broadcast networks, while acknowledging that such technologies should reimburse artists for use of their work. Instead of trying to shut down these information trading technologies (the stance of the four major labels) they are striving to encourage productive dialog among all parties to develop a use ethic which is geared specifically towards benefitting artists, as opposed to multi-national corporations. I recommend that you check them out, and tell other interested people. They are one of the only intelligent voices I've heard in this debate, and it's encouraging to know that someone is speaking for the needs of independent artists to Congress and elsewhere. I used to listen to her and sigh when she played at the Dallas Irish Festival with her band Scartaglen. She played a pretty mean DX7 bass, too. One of the more interesting things about Ms. Dover is her summer sabbaticals at a ranch in Wyoming or Montana (can't remember which state) where she is the chuck wagon cook for cowboys running cattle. Apparently she takes a guitar and sings cowboy songs for the hands. I wish I could remember where I read about her cowboy connection. It might have been an interview on NPR, for that matter. As far as where Happy music has gone: Since my travel is limited and I don't have a CD player in my car, my fond memories are of lying in bed with a headache and drifting in and out of sleep accompanied by the sound of "Many Worlds Are Born Tonight." When conscious, I was swinging into an alternate land where the actions of the songs were visualized as best a limited imagination can render them. Oh, and her catalog has pretty well bubbled into my subconscious, so it isn't that hard to conjure up whatever song seems most appropriate to the occasion. I have a soundtrack for any view before me.
