(only 6 days away!) and some tour dates have been set. I was extremly lucky enough to have reserved two tickets for Radio Music City Hall in New York for October. (I am still processing this.....)Those darn tickets sold out in a New York minute! Just wondering, any other Ecto folk get lucky with tickets? It's going to be an INCREDIBLE tour! Her set list for the Paris show was posted on her site and I can barely contain myself....... The new album is getting fantastic reviews.. and I've heard a few of the songs, and I can say, this is one of her best albums yet. Enjoy.. Suzanne You've Got Mail! Wow! Their lead singer, Rachel Jones, sounds like a cross between Annie Haslam and Mary Fahl. Karnataka performs what can best be described as ethereal rock. Their music is vibrant, enchanting, innovative, and just plain thrilling. Karnataka's web site is http://www.karnataka.ndirect.co.uk/. That's all for now. Back to listening I go. - --Bill n.p. If you have ever > seen British workmen in action you will quickly > realize that such an accomplishment is not > possible :) Now now, don't be so hard on British workmen, they're just these guys, you know? Anyway, we're talking about a (possibly large) group of designers and artists and craftspeople (and probably some who just no doubt take direction very well) who most likely took months, perhaps even years, to plan this thing down to the most minute detail, not galumphing workmen in heavy boots. > I've never been very enamoured of the multitude > of "aliens fixed my teeth" scenarios, ( do > 'alien' and "artist' have to be mutually > exclusive?) I suppose not. Happy is an alien, after all :-). > but this one looks rather awesomely huge for a > team of humans to have accomplished overnight. The most amazing things can be done by humans with drive and purpose, and besides, no one knows how long it took them or what the circumstances were. The planning process must have been fascinating. I have little to say about the rest of your post. I believe everything has an explanation, even if I personally don't know what they might be. I just happen to believe more in the artistic spirit and ingenuity of determined (and mischievous) human beings than I do in aliens who have nothing better to do than hang around fields in England (and a few other places) making pretty and unusual patterns to confound folks. Now, if aliens made those same patterns in *SAND* (areas that don't have access paths running through them the way crop fields do), then I might start to wonder! Or how about under water? "Pond Mud Circles" would definitely have me going "hmmmm!" And btw, the crop circle "season" didn't really get going until the travel restrictions associated with the Foot and Mouth Disease tragedy were lifted. Why would aliens be frightened of F&MD? I hope that someday the people who did this come forward and explain how they did it, but I suppose that would take a lot of the fun out of it (fun being hearing all these people saying "aliens had to have done it because..."). In the meantime, crop circles make everyone happy, except the farmer, of course! (Though meth, it's possible that in certain cases, this one especially, the farmer might be in on the circle-making in some way.) Vickie Make international calls for as low as $.04/minute with Yahoo! I would like to again thank Leon for first mentioning Karnataka here on Ecto. I definitely agree with Bill's statement about Rachel Jones. She really reminds me a lot of Mary Fahl. Their vocal styles, in both tonality and phrasing, are very similar. Rachel sings some very fine harmony vocals as well. Karnataka's music is a wonderful blend of Celtic and progressive rock. To my ears, both musically and in their songwriting, they sound like a cross between Iona and Clannad. The progressive feel comes from the way they arrange their music and the fact that a number of their songs are in an odd time signature. I purchased their self titled debut and "The Storm" via the on-line store they have through their website. It took just a little over a week to receive the CDs from the UK to here in California. Their debut is good. "The Storm" is excellent and is a much stronger outing than their debut. Besides the artists mentioned above, I would recommend Karnataka's music to those Ectophiles who enjoy Loreena McKennitt, Louisa John-Krol, and Kate Price. Bill M. n.p.
