Sept 2 Chapel Hill with Azigza, then roaming free, Great Northern Peace Fest on Sept 8... couple house concerts inbetween? oh, anyone in the santa cruz/big sur area, Pipa's gig looks really really fun, this coming Saturday at Henry Miller library. I hope June is there. Oh, if anyone wants a copy of my strange blue art poster from EctoFestWest, just let me know your snail mail and I will make some. It is all hand done, my collage with Happy, Wendy, Veda, me, and Jill and Pipa all mixed in there. All blues except the black and white heads...I have to charge $5 to cover costs, ($1 tube, $2 shipping, $2 printing.) They are very cool and I keep forgetting to tell you all that came all the way out here....Free art by me. My new line up is very cool, two guitarists and bass... 3 new people...dreamy atmospheric...and i am touring east alone, just me and my stuff if anyone wants a mellow Cyoakha house concert (nothing- nothing like kumbaawa folks)guess that's all for now. peaceout, cyo O'Manion Music PO Box 198 Mill Valley, CA 94941 lanblind@teleport.com http://www.landoftheblind.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 05 Aug 2001 16:14:12 -0400 From: Valerie Nozick Subject: British ectophiles? I don't recall if I've posted this to ecto yet, but I'm about to go back to school for two years in London. I'd love to meet some of the British ectophiles (Tim, are you out there? who else is out there?). I stayed till the end of the song, after everyone else had left the theatre.. I wasn't able to catch the name of the artist in the credits though. So today on a CD shopping trip I picked up a copy of the soundtrack. Turns out the vocalist was Lara Fabian. And I was just looking at one of her CDs at the store a little while back.. I'm going to have to go back and buy it now.. I've only given the rest of the soundtrack a quick skimming so far.. except for the aformentioned song and one other it appears to be all instrumentals by the London Symphony Orchestra.. Lara Fabian also does vocals on two tracks on the AI soundtrack. I agree, she has a really pretty voice. The music on this soundtrack is by John Williams, but it has moments that are reminiscent of Philip Glass and of some of the music from 2001 (to echo the Kubrick connection). Good Hello, Ectomolecules: From Cyoakha's recent message: > oh, i am going to tour east, it looks like things are lining up nice. > Sept 2 Chapel Hill with Azigza, then roaming free, Great Northern Peace > Fest on Sept 8... couple house concerts inbetween? Just to explain that September 8th date, now that it's for real: The Great Northern Peace Festival (nie Woodshed) is being organized and presented by Nylon & Steel, Long Island's own folk-grooving band, which you may recall welcomed our list's own Jessica Weiser as an opener at their last show - the first time the band had any Ectopian(s) share the same stage. For those unable to attend the recent Ectofests but who are close enough to the Long Island area, this night's an absolute MUST, now that the bill will have not just ONE Ectopian, but TWO... Here are the details from N&S' new homepage... http://www.geocities.com/nylon_steel/index.html Saturday, September 8, 7 p.m. (Eastern) The Great Northern Peace Festival Conklin Barn, Huntington Village, New York (NewYork Avenue at High Street) A magical evening of community and peace. Vending village outside, dancing and groovin inside. Musical performers include: Jessica Weiser, Annie Mark, Beat 'n' Green (formerly Princess Peapod), Deer Spirit, Paul Cama, Jim Frazzitta, The Transonics, Lo-Tek J. Williams, Ian and Kimberly Wilder, The Moodsetters, and Nylon & Steel. Light show by Troy's Lightning Caravan & Magic Lantern Projection Show. Free raffles. - --- Bring your cash for this one (I believe the admission will be $7 and should cover the show and munchies). No doubt Jess will bring her three albums with her, and I hope Cyo brings her goods as well (The Blind, Azigza, and whatever else I couldn't list here). Don't blame me for any EWS you experience at this show! (Besides, they can't take credit cards.) You can contact N&S at: Nylon & Steel Post Office Box 570 East Northport, New York 11731 USA Hotline Number: 1-631-368-1920 E-mail: bartow2000@earthlink.net Oh, yes: N&S' dibut CD, _Slip behind the Molecule_, should be available that night... (it gets released this Saturday night with another FolkGroovin' Gathering, also at Conklin Barn, with a $7 admission and a 8 p.m. starting time). For those who can't make it, surf over to http://www.cdbaby.com/nylon&steel (I hope that's right). OK, kiddies, back to your regularly-scheduled cyberanarchy... I'm planning to embark on a big boondoggle of a trip in a few weeks. It'll take me to Maryland/DC (Aug 17 to 24), Connecticut for ectofest (25 to 27), and Ottawa Canada from the 28th to September 4. I'm usually swamped with visiting when I hit Maryland, and I didn't see any concerts to interfere with that plan. (For you DC folks, the week before I arrive, Iota is hosting both Over the Rhine and Victoria Williams (a surprisingly small venue for her), in separate shows.) I don't know anything about Ottawa, and have never been there. Are there any ectofolk in Ottawa? Or anyone who knows the area well who'd like to chat about things I should be sure to do while I'm there? neal np: willow and her sweaty boys (house concert) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 05 Aug 2001 21:41:35 -0400 From: the other white meat Subject: strange little promotion i was in my local rekkid store last week and the owner told me about a strange little girls promotion that atlantic records will be starting soon. participating independent retailers will be pre-selling copies of the album. those who pre-purchase will receive a "download card" which gives you a password to a special website where you can stream the entire album and view exclusive photos and video from the photo shoot that tori did for the "'97 bonnie and clyde" images. i'm not sure about the exact date this promotion starts but i was told it would be sometime soon. if i find out anything else, i'll pass it on. woj ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 5 Aug 2001 23:33:08 -0600 From: Neal Copperman Subject: Mary Fahl ep Some time ago I had ordered some of the October sideProject discs to pass on to someone in trade. Neither made a strong impression while they were in my hands, so I never bothered to pick them up. However, I was so blown away by Mary Fahl's concert at Iota (in Arlington VA) last May, that I felt compelled to pick up the Lenses of Contact EP as a show of support. I mentioned at the time that it still hadn't made much of an impression. Well, months have gone by, and I've easily listened to it 50 times. (That's easy when it's only 4 songs.) Somewhere on around listen 4 or 5, I found the album clicking with me, and now I can't figure out what it was that seemed week to me. I guess the songwriting still doesn't seem up to OP's levels. But the singing and arrangements are fantastic. And maybe it came from seeing her live, but some of the songs that previously seemed flat seem very alive and vibrant. Has anyone been listening to this after the initial few comments? BTW, they recently redid Mary's web page, so it actually has some information and looks quite nice. She's doing a handful of east coast tour dates, so if that covers you, check it out.
