For now, suffice it to say it was a great weekend, mucho thanks to the Montvilles and Siobain for making the camping experience as entertaining as it was. The music was great, as always. Susan Werner absolutely ruled the whole weekend; words cannot express how great it was to see The Nields play again; and Vance Gilbert is one of the funniest human beings ever. My stomach muscles still ache from his set on Sunday. There are a TON of ecto-friendly musical happenings coming up in Connecticut in the next couple weeks, so I thought I'd post them here. August 4-5: SoNo Arts Festival, Norwalk (free!) The full schedule is at http://www.sonoarts.org/schedule.html. Ectophilic highlights on Saturday: Merrie Amsterburg, Rachael Sage, Deb Pasternak, Deni Bonet, and Jess Klein. On Sunday: Kris Delmhorst, Christina Abbott, and Erin McKeown. August 4, New Haven Green (free!) THE NIELDS and DAR WILLIAMS It seems that everyone I know is planning to go to this. woj's sister and her friend are even coming all the way up from Virginia. It's going to be insane. It's The Nields' only full-band show left on their current tour schedule, which goes to the end of the year, so it's a definite cannot-miss. August 7, Tune Inn, New Haven MELISSA FERRICK One of my friends is doing publicity for this show and she's freaking out that nobody's going to be there. I think she's being paranoid, but please help prove I'm right. August 10, Tune Inn, New Haven JONATHA BROOKE What the hell is she doing playing in New Haven?!? I'm blowing off an NHFA obligation to go to this one. (shhh :) Hope to see some ectophiles at all these things... ======================================= Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org ======================================= ectofest 2001: August 25, 2001 A benefit for RAINN Kenosia Lake Park, Danbury, CT http://www.ectofest.org ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 31 Jul 2001 23:25:55 -0400 From: dave Subject: cowboy junkies on tv CJ's are scheduled to be on the Craig Kilborn show (after Letterman) on thursday night. dave ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 01 Aug 2001 03:40:44 From: "Lyle Howard" Subject: Brave Combo Hello, I was remiss in not letting you denizens of New York know that Little Jack Melody and His Young Turks was/were appearing at CBs in early July. Little Jack plays twisted cabaret music and works very hard at putting on a good show (well, no lasers and smoke). So, I will redeem myself by telling you that Brave Combo is playing at the Bottom Line on August 9 (hmm, what is there about that date?). Brave Combo is the greatest dance band on the planet (my opinion only). Is there room to dance at the Bottom Line? I hope so, otherwise there are going to be a lot of squashed feet and tipped over chairs when Brave Combo breaks into the Chicken Dance. You can not refuse to dance when they play that song. I, who can't dance, danced the Chicken Dance under the evil influence of Brave Combo. It is the singularly most uncomfortable place ever to see music. Too bad they get such good shows in there. :/ ======================================= Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org ======================================= ectofest 2001: August 25, 2001 A benefit for RAINN Kenosia Lake Park, Danbury, CT http://www.ectofest.org ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 31 Jul 2001 22:25:18 -0600 From: Neal Copperman Subject: Re: new ecto-ish artist- megan slankard At 12:14 PM -0700 7/31/01, Troy J Shadbolt wrote: >for those of you that want to get in on the "ground floor" of an >emerging artist, i'm offering up a very talented young lady in my area. >her name is megan slankard and she is all of 18 years old, but has been >a performing artist for 3 years, and does somewhere in the neighborhood >of 200 gigs a year. I listened to her sound samples today and they sounded quite promising. Very varied and appealing. Looking forward to hearing more of her in the future. >http://www.meganslankard.com/Megansongs.html > neal np: One Step Closer - Vivian's Keeper ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 1 Aug 2001 15:44:51 +1000 (EST) From: Sherlyn Koo Subject: Patty Griffin in Annapolis last night Hey folks, What a great few days of music it's been. Falcon Ridge was wonderful - thanks meth'n'woj for the ride. All everyone seems to be talking about is how Susan Werner totally OWNED the weekend, and you know what? They're right. Svetlana rules. :) Apart from Susan, the other highlight of the festival for me was during Dar Williams' set, looking back during "Iowa" and seeing the entire hill lit up with white, yellow, blue and green lighters and flashlights. It was incredible. After getting back to Baltimore at 3am on Monday morning, we got up at 4pm and struggled down to Annapolis to see Patty Griffin at the Ram's Head. What a great show! She played for about an hour and a quarter - a mix of recorded and new stuff. The new songs are excellent. Her guitarist (I think his name was Doug Lancio) was unbelievable, adding a lot of texture to the songs without ever being in the way. Patty sounded great too. All in all, a completely spellbinding experience. Must... sleep... sherlyn ps - I highly recomend the Strawberry Suede dessert from the Ram's Head menu - chocolate mousse and strawberries on a chocolate shortbread base - divine! =-=-=-= Sherlyn Koo - sherlyn@fl.net.au =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= [a+e=ig] "We will push on into that mystery And it'll push right back And there are worse things than that..." - Dar Williams ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V7 #214 **************************
