I seem to vaguely remember a list of made up, ludicrous pop groups, and Toad the Wet Sprocket was the last one mentioned. Obviously, though, it was too good to waste. adamk ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 3 Jul 2001 20:16:02 EDT From: ToriCure@aol.com Subject: Re: new TORI I am looking forward to hearing Tori's new work. But when I heard that the new album would consist of traditionally male written songs being reinterpreted with a female twist, Liz Phair's Exile in Guyville immediately came to mind. Liz used the Rolling Stone's classic, Exile on Mainstreet as her template to make her debut album. Although it wasn't necessarily a song by song response like many people have assumed, the female characters in her songs were very strong, independent, and sexually potent on an equal scale to the Stones. Hopefully Tori's attempt at this gender role reversal thing will be successful in a similar manner. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 3 Jul 2001 17:32:06 -0700 From: "Vienna Teng" Subject: Re: Toad the Wet Sprocket From Toad's website: In December of 1995 Toad had a platinum album award (DULCINEA) made up for Eric Idle, one of the original Monty Python members, and a mutual friend delivered it to the surprised comedian. The band immediately received a letter from the gracious and surprised Idle, who informed Toad that he originally thought of the name for a TV sketch because he wanted "to think of a name so silly and unusual no one would ever consider it for a group." No one, except of course, four young men putting together their first band in Santa Barbara. When Idle first heard the band and their name on the airwaves, he said he "nearly drove off the road. It was spooky but I was also very thrilled." So were the guys in Toad when they received his thank you note. - ----- Original Message ----- From: "Adam K."
