More new stuff.. Ida Kristin album sampler Its just a sampler, but she shines. Ida Kristin recalls Maria Mckee with her dynamic voice and countryish songs. Her album should rock. Ryan Adams guests on it even. Ossler Desorienterad Swedish bass player goes solo. He's normally with Wilmer X; one of our country's more long lived acts. This is edgy rock with a fun swedish cover of Gun Club's Sex Beat. Cousteau Crooning at midnight. The band do sound like Tindersticks but have a feel all their own. She dont hear your prayer is a future classic. Donna lewis Now in a minute Soft pop with Kate influenced vocals. A bit cheesy but likable all the same. As a good friend of Happy's, I say just do it. I haven't talked to her about this, but if she doesn't like it--as they say--tough noogies. If anyone would like to send checks to me, I'll personally put them in her hand. Then she can kick my ass instead of yours. I can take the heat. If there's one thing I've learned recently, it's that when someone offers you a gift, you just accept it, say thank you, and shut the hell up. The universe is good. Anyway, I'm sure she'll greatly appreciate it. If not, I'll bitch slap her. Just kiddink. Sharon Nichols P.O. A very nice film but the really great thing was seeing David Gray as a pub singer doing a few of his songs. Kathy Burke does a nice rendition of Gray's Shine too. I was going to mention the huge list of fictional band names that covers a few pages in the _Illuminatus!_ trilogy. But it would be something of a coincidence if that was your source. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 Jun 2001 11:24:26 -0700 From: irvin lin Subject: Happy medical... the Sweet Relief fund sounds like a good plan. as someone mentioned, they are at http://www.sweetrelief.org/contact.html and it sounds like HAPPY qualifies. another thing that JANE SIBERRY mentioned on her website is that she felt guilty for downloading songs off of napster, so every song she wanted or kept, she wrote a check for a couple of dollars to SWEET RELIEF to relieve her guilt. $2 for every decent song, $3 for hearing BRITNEY SPEARS swearing. hee hee. regardless i think the pre ordering of HAPPY's CD might be a good idea to get the ball rolling, but what about doing what KRISTIN HERSH/THROWING MUSIC is doing, with her subscription MP3's a month plan (i am sure there are other artists doing this but i don't know any off the top of my head)? you pay a $15 fee and you get 12 rarities from her or from throwing muses one per month. it's a great way to hear the writing process since most of the songs are demos. I think most of us on this list would be willing to spend $15 to hear a demo of COLLECTIVE HEART or SAVE OUR SOUL. i don't know if HAPPY actually does demos (KATE BUSH no longer demos, but just records the tracks directly i believe), but if she has any archives of older songs that she doesn't deem worthy of releasing on an official album but wouldn't mind releasing to fan via this subscription plan this might be a good way. acoustic versions, alternative version, demos, live etc etc. i am sure there are things out there that ECTOPHILES would love to hear. this might be a better option for her, because that way HAPPY wouldn't feel any pressure to finish her album any time soon, with a damaged hand. Putting MP3's on her website with a secured link would take minimum time to do, and the fans that are paying upfront actually have a chance to hear stuff right away, as opposed to having to wait (i admit that i tend to be rather impatient when it comes to waiting...i want instant gratification...) just a thought. irvin ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 Jun 2001 21:09:31 -0500 From: Joseph Zitt Subject: San Francisco this Week I am somewhat suddenly and pleasingly in San Francisco this week, temporarily enjoying the fact that my company was able to lay me off before its severance checks started bouncing ;-] (Actually, they haven't started bouncing, but with stock at about 4% of what it was a little over a year ago, who knows...)
