HEY! actually LADYBUG TRANSISTOR has been around since 1995 so i hardly think they qualify as a group that just recently named themselves, despite how silly their name sounds. i think their naming is more cuz of their indie pop genre than anything to do with the timeframe that they came about. my all time favorite band name was a group called THAT FAT CHICK FROM WILSON PHILLIPS. completely un-PC, i don't think CARNIE took it as a compliment, but since she has since lost all her weight by stomach bypassing i think she probably could chuckle about it now (actually i read an interview with her ages ago, where they mentioned the band to her, and she was aghast, but then slightly flattered too). who knows. i've actually never heard them so i haven't a clue what they sound like. i don't think they are around anymore. i mean how far can you get with a band name that specific? i have to admit, better than random words that contradict each other, or big four syllable pretentious GRE words strung together, my favorite band names tend the ones that try to use whole sentences, or complete thoughts like the THAT FAT CHICK.... other examples are ...THEY WILL KNOW US BY THE TRAIL OF DEAD or GODSPEED YOU BLACK EMPEROR! i love that. i guess i am partial to names that require punctuation. oh can the person that posted about JILL SOBULE on THE ONION post the direct link to it? i hit theonion.com but couldn't find a link to their AV club. i did find very amusing though, under their TOP EUPHEMISMS FOR MENSTRUATION number 3 was KATE BUSH-ING. ha! irvin ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 21 Jun 2001 02:17:00 -0700 (PDT) From: anna maria "stjärnell" Subject: ecto is ten Hi.. Yesterday I resubscribed to Ecto after many years of absence - although I only lurked then and will probably mostly lurk now apart from a brief "hello." Respect is due to everyone involved with the Ecto guide to good music. What a fine resource. Lots and lots of new artists to investigate and lots of samplers from gnutella before spending any cold hard cash but I can see smoe.org being financially harmful. But in a good kind of way. :) Most of my absolute favourites are fairly standard Ecto fodder, Tori, Sarah, Kate, Happy, Lorenna, Aimee Mann. Did anyone else here see the wonder filled Aimee at Fleadh on Saturday? A fine show and well worth getting wet for. The rain made the one day event feel like a _real_ festival, just like a Glastonbury mud-bath! And to cap the evening off a stunning set by Mr. Neil Young and Crazy Horse who rocked hard! And a couple of quieter acoustic tracks which the audiance loved, despite Neil's worries that quiet stuff wouldn't go down so well. Apart from the goddesses (and one god!) above I listen to all kinds. Floyd, Dylan (who gave a great show in Cardiff some months back) Smashing Pumpkins, Joni Mitchell (should be in the paragraph above with the other goddesses) Throwing Muses/KH, REM, Buffy Sainte-Marie, tuneful-trance (BT's "Movement In Still Life" well worth checking out for fans of melodic trance with phat beats and floaty vocals.) Other bands worth of mention; Spooks, Bran Van 3000, Steeleye Span, Faithless, Morcheeba ( all albums highly recommended), Massive Attack, Natlie Merchant/10KM (another that should be above). I could go on but wont. Not this time anyway. Probably not many surprises there. I look forward to discovering lots of new artists from all you tasteful people. Bye for now... - -- EbGb. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 21 Jun 2001 17:30:12 EDT From: Dracovixen@aol.com Subject: Re: Ectofest benefiting RAINN I am sooo excited!!!
