I have never seen Happy perform, have not heard Veda or Jill Tracy in over a year, and have never heard anything by Two Loons for Tea or Cyoakha... I'm looking forward to having some of my musical boundaries streched! I'm also looking forward to meeting some ecto list members. I should be easy to spot... I'll be the old guy (I'm older than Mick Jagger or Keith Richards), with glasses, dressed all in black (just like a 'raven'). One more thing... if, like me, you are planning to use public transit to return to San Jose after the show, be aware that the *last bus* leaves Santa Cruz for San Jose at 11:15... the Kuumbwa is an easy 5-minute walk from the bus station... plan accordingly. Errrr, make that "stretched". Also, for those taking public transit, here is the schedule: John - -- RAVEN - -- RAVEN ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 8 Jun 2001 10:12:50 -0400 From: John J Henshon Subject: Fest West / Happy Article Hi all, Picked up a copy of "Good Time's" at the Borders Books around the corner from Kuumbwa, yes I'm in the land of rumbling geology, and found Happy listed as the "Pick of the Week" in an above the fold article on page 19. It takes up the top third of the page and has a nice size snap of Ms Rhodes' sporting a "I'm gonna slap yo lip" expression. Apologies to anyone who might have tried to call re: travel plans/a ride, as my phone (lost) was down for a day and a half. I'm on the digest so if anyone posts anything like Ecto/West goings on, events, gatherings, etc. for Fri/Sat. (alas heading back East Sunday morning) I'd appreciate a cc. John (Who found out Jetblue's cheap because they only transport sardines.) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 8 Jun 2001 20:37:01 -0500 (CDT) From: "Mitchell A. Pravatiner" Subject: Four pro jobs and a basement tape Since other contributors are weighing on on the Dectopia CD, I now feel comfortable doing the same. The other contributors' tracks are superbly done. Professional quality in every sense of the word. And then there's mine--literally a basement tape, since I recorded it in my basement, on my recording walkman. The remastering, for better or worse, removed much of the tape hiss at the price of making it sound like I was holding the recording session in the bathroom (though that sort of environment, it is written, had something to do with the unique sound of Jerry Murad and the Harmonicats' classic recording of "Peg O' My Heart" :-) ). And while it is the best all around take I came up with, it is not the best rendition of every single song. For all that, I hope it will provide dyed-in-the-wool Ectophiles with a bit of joy and amusement. My fellow artists, here's to us all five.
