(215) 928-0978 DETAILS ABOUT SHOWS: In Woodstock: The Kleinert-James Art Center is right in the middle of Woodstock. Its actually an art gallery as well. Theres a lovely piano and were really looking forward to this debut in the town where we live half the time. In New York City: Help kick off a series of Wednesday nights with us May 2 at the West Bank Cafe. The West Bank is a great space. Beautiful and intimate and we use a lighting designer, Brian Scott, who makes it very theatrical. Theres a nice bar in the theatre and you can get dinner before hand at the restaurant upstairs (foods really good). (866) 271-5555 In Philly: Back home in downtown Philadelphia at one of our favorite haunts, Tin Angel. Always a great energy with the Philly crowd. Serrano restaurant downstairs (also good). An early show and a late show. Professor and Mary Ann from NYC open the shows. (acoustic guitar and voice - "a simon and garfunkel for our age" -Alternative Press) Reservations are a good idea. I am actually at Oberlin right now! I came back to visit, as I'm making my way from Illinois to New Jersey. So it was really cool to see this subject header, and I thought someone was sending it directly to me as an Oberlin alum. Anyway, just wanted to recommend that anyone at all in the area go to the folkfest. Obies do this kind of thing very well. Tappan Square is beautiful; Oberlin people are friendly; and spring is very pretty and fragrant here. A lot of these artists are already well-known and liked here on ecto. I'll just give a plug to the Oberlin Can Consortium, a student steel drum ensemble that puts on wonderful, lively shows and yes, good music too. Also, Josh Ritter has played a lot in Oberlin, has at least 1 cd, and has played at the Living Room in New York. And if that's enough encouragement, remember that Oberlin graduated Emily Bezar and Liz Phair! I was just out on the lawn behind the bandstand listening to them. My legs gave out so I headed home and am listening to them on KNTU, the local college radio station. It's been an interesting weekend so far. Friday night I listened to John Scofield. He had a very funky rhythm guitarist with him. Played his usual good music. This morning I wandered over to the bluegrass jam on the town square and found the creative force behind Centromatic (Will Johnson) playing guitar with the old timers, who were singing Country and Western hits from the forties and fifties. I wandered over to the Jazz Fest and watched Little Jack Melody and His Young Turks. Tonight it was Brave Combo. Tomorrow the German Fest in Muenster, TX, for a little fun run. It's not too late to catch Brave Combo. Bye, Lyle ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V7 #121 **************************
