Come see this show at Brandeis on Sunday. I'll be there, running the sound. I'm including below a copy of the message I sent out earlier this week to the Liz Nickrenz mailing list, which includes details and a pointer to directions. BTW, Molly Zenobia is my candidate for the next goddess of ecto, once enough of you have a chance to hear her. She's along the lines of Veda, Tori, and Happy - especially Veda, IMO - but rather different from all of them. -- Cos - ----- Forwarded message from Ofer Inbar ----- Date: Mon, 23 Apr 2001 20:20:52 -0400 From: Ofer Inbar To: Elizabeth Nickrenz Cc: Molly Zenobia Subject: This Sunday: Liz Nickrenz, Molly Zenobia, and Mary Lou Lord (Waltham, MA) Sorry about the short notice! This concert was just put together last week, and we just confirmed Liz's appearance at it over the weekend. This coming Sunday, April 29th, the Rock 'n' Roll club at Brandeis University in Waltham, MA, is holding a fundraiser concert for the Musicians Assistance Program, Mary Lou Lord's charity of choice. The concert will be called "Strong and Free, a night of folk and ice cream at Chumley's staring Mary lou Lord with guests". It will be held at Cholmondeley's Coffehouse (pronounced "chumley's") on the Brandeis University campus, beginning at 8pm. All ages, no cover, but there will be a suggested donation, all of which will go to the M.A.P. The concert will begin with short sets by a couple of Brandeis students, then Molly Zenobia and Liz Nickrenz will each play a set, and finally Mary Lou Lord. We expect Liz will go on some time between 10pm and 11pm, and play for about 40 - 50 minutes. For directions to Brandeis, both by car and by public transportation, I recommend the WBRS directions at http://www.wbrs.org/directions.html The only difference is that when you reach Brandeis, instead of looking for WBRS in the Usdan Student Center, go to the Castle. It's a stone castle and very easy to spot. Chumley's is located on the ground floor, at the bottom of the large round tower, on the outside (their front door faces out, not into the castle's courtyard). Chumley's is the campus coffeehouse, and they sell coffee, tea, ice cream, bagels, sandwiches, and similar stuff. It's very cozy and comfortable. Liz has played there before and loved it, so if you haven't seen her there yet, come this time. In summary: "Strong and Free", a benefit for Musician's Assistance Program Mary Lou Lord, Liz Nickrenz, Molly Zenobia, and others Sunday, April 29th, 8:00pm Cholmondeley's Coffeehouse, in the Castle at Brandeis University, Waltham, MA all ages, no cover, suggested donation at door If you're not in the Boston area, but you know someone who is, and who might like Liz, pass this on to them and encourage them to go! -- Cos (Ofer Inbar) -- cos@polyamory.org http://cos.polyamory.org/ -- WBRS (100.1 FM) -- info@wbrs.org http://www.wbrs.org/ "And I know just what the world needs: One more clumsy person with a sword" -- Liz Nickrenz, "Superheroine" ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 27 Apr 2001 10:09:30 -0000 From: "Madeleine West" Subject: Bandit queen adamk@zoom.co.uk said: >does anyone remember/ever knew of the bands Die Monster Die and Bandit >Queen? The track will serve as the background music for all of the Fox commercials that promote the February 5th season finale" which may be where Paul heard it. And if the boyfriend in question was played by Robert Downey,Jr,I guess she will REALLY be saying good bye to him. It was from 11PM - 12AM Central. Shawn Colvin was on last night performing with some natives in Tahiti and Alanis Morissette was on Tuesday or Wednesday night (I think she was in Hawaii). I'm curious to know who else was involved in this series. It had quite a few large corporate sponsors and was not an MTV-produced series. It must have been fairly new because Shawn was singing "Whole New You". np Smashing Pumpkins - Machina: The Machines of God ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 28 Apr 2001 08:08:51 +1000 (EST) From: Sherlyn Koo Subject: FW: Oberlin College Spring Folkfest '01 Hey folks, This is forwarded from the Indigo Girls mailing list - looks interesting... - -sherlyn - ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Fri, 27 Apr 2001 17:41:26 -0400 From: Becky B. Her album (True North) is very nice, though I hope she finds someone else to do the music for her next time (the guy who did it for her this time did a nice job, but he kept using a lot of the same elements and patterns...). I enjoyed the album, not one of my favoites, but still a very enjoyable album. I like her voice, and her lyrics. I think she has a lot of potential to become an accomplished artist. Hope this helps you out, and I would still suggest to anyone that they buy the album. I was actually able to find it myself today while at work. The reason why "I Will Love You" struck me as so TV friendly/reminiscent is because it was used for commercials for Ally McBeal around February or so in a touching scene with ally and robert downey jr. voila. i found it interesting to read the production log of rob wasserman, he who is the other half of fisher and also the producer of the album, on the website. neat stuff. and, yes jess, i have thoroughly chastised myself for not heeding your suggestions in the past to check them out. :) anyone else notice that Kirsty MacColl's Tropical Brainstorm has been re-released with a different cover and 3 extra tunes and a video? I'm not sure if this is the long-awaited US release, or just another international release. I saw it at the Virgin store on Sunset in CA.
