I also think it is a great album even though it needed plenty years to get it finished bach then :) Right now what I'm looking forward to is Stevie Nicks' upcoming album - the lineup for it looks very much interesting with Sheryh Crow, Sarah McLachlan and Macy Gray + tons of other great musicians. Btw ... Anyone heard anything more about who's gonna take over after Christine McVie in Fleetwood Mac when they move into studio in September? Has anyone ever heard of an artist named Agatha Parker Sterling? There is a song that is now floating around that claims to be early Tori Amos - called "Father Boy" but I am unconvinced and there is a reference on the Internet to a song by the same name by this artist - - but no sound clips that I can find. If anyone would've heard of a Tori-influenced indie-artist, though, it's you guys. So what do you all think? marla tiara ===== ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Famous people wearing my tiara: http://www.marlatiara.com (*updated 01/23/01 - Emm Gryner!) A friend just sent me an mp3, describing it as the most beautiful music ever, and it is very beautiful indeed. Her voice has an interesting quality that I think some here might enjoy. We Are Demo - from a label called R.E.X. I think, but i'm not sure about the last part. Anyone have this gathering dust somewhere? It seems to have come out in 1996 and if you work at a college radio station, check the library 'cause it might be there... I just want to prove this song isn't Tori Amos - I know it's not, but I have no proof. :) marla tiara ===== ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Famous people wearing my tiara: http://www.marlatiara.com (*updated 01/23/01 - Emm Gryner!) June 6! Wendy Rule, Cyokha Grace+ friends, Pipa Pinon, at the Espresso Gardens, San Jose. Kudos to the unsinkable Cyokha, who left after our late-night mastering session at Weightless Studios ( where we'd been frantically mastering our Happy tribute covers) and trekked down to meet with Judy at Espresso. The resulting gig will be something not to be missed. Cyokha is currently aflight on her mission to devastate the East coast, so she will doubtless add more info when she gets a chance to get online again. Meanwhile please mark your calendars. The Espresso Gardens has food, beer wine, great sound system , good artwork, and a nice vibe. If you've not been before, this might be a time to check it out. BTW: did anyone catch the Merrie Amsterburg show there recently? I couldn't make it. Bill Mazur, Cy and I recently mastered the three tracks that we're contributing to the Happy tribute CD ( is there a name for it yet?). They are: SOS, Temporary and Eternal, and Feed the Fire. "Fire' was Cy's contribution, done with some of the people from her two bands, I did T&E in my own studio, and SOS was a collaboration with all three of us. Cy made some time for us out of her normally insane schedule and came down to provide some wonderful vocal and percussion parts for it, and we are very pleased with the way all of the songs came out. Can we do one of these every year ? :). Thanks to Fog for once more doing the CD production side, and of course, many thanks to Happy for all the inspiration. That's about all I know Have a great weekend. (Currently our flight is scheduled to arrive in San Jose just before 3 pm, so there's a good chance we can make it to this!) The more cool musical events get scheduled in and around Ectofest, the easier it's becoming to plan this trip. If local denizens could point out a good (yet cheap) place to stay in the San Jose area, I'd appreciate it. It looks like our trip is going to get divided into two parts: in the general San Jose/Santa Cruz area through EFW, then in the San Francisco area after EFW. (The only hotel room I have booked is at the San Jose airport for the night before we head home. I really have to work on that.) I'm sure others here could benefit from the info, too. ======================================= Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth "things are more beautiful when they're obscure" -- veda hille ======================================= Live At The House O'Muzak House Concert Series http://www.smoe.org/meth/muzak.html ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 20 Apr 2001 17:34:55 -0600 From: Neal Copperman Subject: Re: San Jose Divas Night! I opened for Merrie that night -- Judy heard me at the open mic the previous Thursday and asked if I'd be interested in the gig. I'd never heard of Merrie before, but I did my research and downloaded "Design" from her website, read over the lyrics from the _Little Steps_ album there. On the basis of one song and some lyrics I thought she was pretty cool, but I didn't expect to be as enchanted as I was that evening. She's a marvelous singer live, and she and her husband Peter Linton have a nice duo dynamic going on stage. I've been playing her two albums in my car semi-nonstop since then. 'Course none of y'all know me, so my taste and judgment are unknown. :^) I'll try to make it to the June 6 show... - - Vienna _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 20 Apr 2001 19:58:36 -0700 From: Billi Mazur Subject: Re: San Jose Divas Night! I was so hoping that she would bring her 'Songs and Stories of Moby Dick' out to Australia and I checked her website just before began this post and it looks like it has not been updated since halfway through last year. It certainly looked spectacular so I am really disappointed to have missed out. I saw her show 'The Ugly one with the Jewels' that was great but the tale of Moby Dick is just so compelling, and someone as poetic and innovative as Laurie would do wondrous things with it. It's getting kind of frustrating watching these things get announced. I bought my plane tix a week and a half ago, arriving on the 7th and departing on the 12th. Since then, we've had a Veda house concert announced on the 12th and this show announced on the 6th! Well, I'm sure it will be a great show. :( neal np: Burnt Sienna - Azalia Snail ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 21 Apr 2001 01:51:00 -0400 From: "JoAnn Whetsell" Subject: norwegian artists Hi. Just wanted to mention 2 Norwegian artists I don't think have been mentioned yet. Both are violinists-- Hege Rimestad (who plays with Mari Boine) and Anbjorg Lien (who plays with Bukkene Bruse). Both have excellent releases on Northside records-- White Arrow (HR) and Baba Yaga (AL). I think Lien has at least 2 other albums as well. Baba Yaga has a few vocals on it; it is more electronic/experimental than Rimestad's work.
