Susan Werner is at the Tin Angel on Saturday, the 21st; Steve Forbert is there on the 22nd, and sad to say, Mary Fahl is there on the 24th, just outside your window of opportunity. Judging from your email, you may enjoy the sights and sounds of a walk down South Street in the evening. Try between 2nd and 14th streets. (Don't worry about any evil news reports you may have heard about Fat Tuesday crap, it's really a neat, quaint area of old City Philly to check out). If you're a people person, check it out.... Retro 70s AM music, championed by Air and St. Etienne. Unlike those bands, they tend to play the music "straight", with no eletronic wankering in the background. Nice dusky female vocals. I like, I like. Biosphere: CIRQUE. Less aetherial, more Bill Laswell liquid dream funk. I like it as background music for writing and work, but I don't love it yet. One to grow on. Lovely, and like EBTG, can be played in "repeat" mode again and again. Furthermore, I want all of their T-shirts and other merch! Cheers Birdie (not with the band, really!! ) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 12 Apr 2001 08:22:35 -0700 (PDT) From: Marla Tiara Subject: Re: B is for New purchases: Birdie and Biosphere - --- Craig Gidney wrote: > Birdie: SOME DUSTY. I love them too - Debsey's band - she is formerly of Dolly Mixture (they have one CD - Demonstration Tapes) that is definitely worth tracking down. It's girlier, cuter.) And she's done many backup vocals for St. Etienne (another favorite of mine) as well. Their second album is out in Japan, due out in the US sometime later this year. Saint Etienne, in case anyone cares, just released "Interlude" - B sides, new tracks, remixes. I like it a lot. Queen of Polythene is on my new "summer" mix. And while I'm here, let me tell you that Black Box Recorder's second album has also finally been released in the US - they're not quite "ecto" but they're fabulous nonetheless. Very very dark, moody. I just got Rachael Sage's new one (and some candies with her name on them!) but haven't had 5 seconds to listen yet. I can't wait though! woooo hooo! (Have fun in Europe Rachael!) Someone convince me not to give up on Ani Difranco and to buy R/R. I haven't liked much of the last 3 albums, and I've been iffy on the new one based on 2 live shows and some mp3s... marla tiara, who still needs to get her 'for sale' list in order. ===== ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Famous people wearing my tiara: http://www.marlatiara.com (*updated 01/23/01 - Emm Gryner!)
