Bjork. Let's pause here a minute and close our eyes, and let's go to our special place. You may find in this place a natural mineral bath, where the warm soothing waters melt the tensions away, steam rising from the water and condensing to a fog that obscures the mountainous snow laden landscape, in a land where everyone is friendly, and has an umlaut in their surname. Ahhhhh. Bjork. Bjork was wonderful! Yeah but where was Thom Yorke? What was Goldie Hawn on? Pixie dust sprinkled in advance by Bjork? Willem Dafoe should have won for best supporting actor. Julia Roberts gets the Gwyneth memorial award for gushing. Well at least Tom Hanks didn't win. Anna Maria np-Bjork-Homogenic Get email at your own domain with Yahoo! That did really suck, but they had to make some room for Randy Newman! How else could the so completely stink! Ok everyone, here's the Killer... An excerpt from a reply written by a friend in at a major Regional Theatre: "That actress named Harden, Marcia Gay Harden was in (Name of play deleted) with you guessed it.... Burt (Ed: Name Deleted to protect the innocent). She played the blond and everyone at my party was wondering where she was....She didn't wear the wig to the party." (my friend was referring to a notorious cast party where this Burt character, a movie actor and an actor in the play, got really wasted and went jumping on her trampoline, and got his head stuck between the springs. I deleted the names because he didn't remember what happened to him the next day, and we would like to keep it that way!) "She was there with brown hair. That way she was left alone by all the groupies. You were there right? The trampoline party with Burt in the springs? Have a great day. Russell Crowe is here today filming the movie Ruth is working on. At lunch we are going on a field trip to find him.......We are so Queer" As a matter of fact, it all comes flooding back to me now, I was hitting on Marcia Gay Harden at my friend's party! Unfortunately she could see right through my Oscar winning performance. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Mar 2001 13:18:02 -0500 From: "Foghorn J Fornorn" Subject: Bjork & Oscars One has to wonder at Bjork's command of the English language. Yes, she sings in it (much to the chagrin of her native Icelanders, if certain biographies are to be believed), and speaks it, albeit somewhat brokenly and with a fairly thick accent. The Fashionados before and after the Oscars of course made much mockery of her outfit. Most made some backhanded reference to "swan song". For those unfamiliar, a "swan song" is an English idiom for the final work of an artist whose creativity in their particular genre is terminated by death or some other major lifestyle upheaval. At first I wondered if Bjork herself, if not her assistants/agents/whatnot, were aware of this idiom and tried to warn her about the possible interpretation of her apparel choice. Then it occured to me: she chose this for the Motion Picture Academy, an organization primarily of actors. She's made no secret about her own distaste for the job of being an actor, despite the critical praise. So perhaps she's a step or two ahead of us after all. As far as being an actor is concerned, she might be trying to proclaim that "Dancer" is her swan song in that medium. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Mar 2001 14:04:45 -0500 From: "Ted" Subject: Re: Bjork & Oscars - ----- Original Message ----- From: Foghorn J Fornorn To: ecto Sent: Tuesday, March 27, 2001 1:18 PM Subject: Bjork & Oscars > One has to wonder at Bjork's command of the English language. > > Yes, she sings in it (much to the chagrin of her native Icelanders, if > certain biographies are to be believed), and speaks it, albeit somewhat > brokenly and with a fairly thick accent. > > The Fashionados before and after the Oscars of course made much mockery of > her outfit. Bully for her. It became apparent for me when she lifted up her dress outside and out rolled a Paper mache egg on the Red Carpet. She intentionally wanted to lay a "Fashion Egg" there. She obviously was sending a message not to treat Motion Picture institution or the Oscars so seriously. The muse is with Bjork, Joan Rivers cannot take that away from her. > > So perhaps she's a step or two ahead of us after all. In the interviews with her I've heard, her English wasn't broken at all. And her accent is more Cockney than anything. You can definitely tell she's been living in London for the past several years. >So perhaps she's a step or two ahead of us after all. She has made no secret of the fact that making that movie was such a horrible experience for her, she never wants to do it again. Which is a real shame, because she did an INCREDIBLE job. But it's her choice what she does with her life. ======================== Meredith Tarr New Haven, CT USA mailto:meth@smoe.org http://www.smoe.org/meth ======================================= ***!!!GO UCONN!!!*** ======================================= http://www.smoe.org/meth/trajectory.html "things are more beautiful when they're obscure" -- veda hille ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Mar 2001 22:34:56 -0500 From: recount chocula Subject: ADMIN: smoe.org downtime Thursday per the attached now, smoe.org will be out o'commission on thursday, march 31st, starting around 5 AM ET (the machines are being moved to a new location). there will be no mail service during this outage. look for the mail to start flowing again thursday evening. woj >Date: Tue, 27 Mar 2001 13:10:21 -0500 >From: Jeff Wasilko >Subject: ADMIN: smoe.org downtime for move (Thursday) > >Hi: > >This move is scheduled to happen this Thursday 3/29, and will likely take >most of the day.
