I love her and agree she is a goddess, and have gone to great pains to order her stuff--at least until I found www.greekcityvideo.com. They are Canadian, but have the best selection I've found at the best prices (mainly due to the exchange rate). They carry her latest "Whispers"--a collection of her favorite songs with only piano or guitar accompaniment--the songs really highlight her incredible voice. The live album is fantastic--but others to look for are E! (Hey!) which has my all-time favorite song by her---The Ballad of a Convict, and The Game of Love (To Pehnidi Tis Agapis). She actually has two live albums--I much prefer GIRIZONTAS TO KOSMO '92-'97: LIVE - --it includes a studio recording of her "cover" of Loreena McKennitt's Tango to Evora. Loreena hummed vocals to a traditional melody, and Haris actually wrote lyrics. The other live album ENA FILI TOU KOSMOU covers much of the same ground, but doesn't include the Loreena cover. GCV lists 55 albums that have her on it--many are compilation albums with just her on one or two songs, and many are just old songs of very traditional stuff (or so I assume). It's a bit overwhelming. Unfortunately they're showing her latest as out of stock--but they've been good about notifying me when they get thigns in stock when I've ordered from them before (call toll-free--they won't accept on-line orders for items non-in-stock--but they will e-mail you when they get in stock if you ask them to). I'm curious as to what the show will be like. Mick has been playing Renaissance music for a bit -- had a different singer (with Annie's blessing). To be honest, seeing the ad floored me. I know that Annie does her usual Christmas show in Upper Black Eddy, PA, and occasionally hits venues in PA, NJ, and NY, but this? Wow. The reunion shows are this one in London and three in Japan. My boyfriend just came back into town -- I showed him the ad. Mt. Hood? Rainier?"... We all scrambled to get out to the parking lot.. I'm in a low 1-story building in Vancouver, WA, so outside is definitely safer than in... The thing that spooked me most was getting no answer when I called our babysitter's apartment (she was watching my daughter at the time)... Turned out they had walked over to her sister's apartment rather than be alone,,, *whew* *ugh*.. I almost needed a valium after that one... 5 years ago it would have been "Whoa! Cool!" But now as a homeowner and parent, I can live without that kind of excitement... I've already done some quick research and the places in Colorado that interest me have about 1/3 the risk of violent earthquakes compared to here.. Wasn't much of a consideration before today.. Thanks for the concern, Meredith. Everyone I know of is fine (myself, Jim, Tamar, Mike Peskura) if still recovering from the adrenaline rush, but Tamar was moving across town today and on top of suffering through the earthquake her moving company arrived about 6 hours late! (They got the dates wrong.) So anyway, we're on our way to help her get settled. We had no casualties, but Londo and G'Kar and an antique Scotch bottle fell off our bookcases. All are still in one piece. I think Kat works downtown--she might have a more interesting tale to tell. My parents felt it as strongly as we did, and they're in Victoria, B.C. I have three Zazie CD's, and the one I like best by far is *Zen* (1995). It's edgy pop, with lots of wordplay (in French, but some plays on English as well). The song I like best is the one I first heard by Zazie, which set me in search of her albums--"Larsen" (which I later found out is short for "Effet Larsen," which means "feedback" in French). Before buying *Zen* I got *Je, Tu, Ils* (1992) here in the U.S., but was pretty unimpressed by it. At the same time that I bought *Zen* in Paris, I also picked up *Made In Love* (1998), which is somewhere in between the other two; not as clever or as energetic or as edgy as *Zen,* but still positive on the whole. I was never able to find these albums here in the U.S., so your best bet may be to buy them through fnac at , though I haven't gotten far enough through the checkout to see if they actually deliver to the U.S. Archambault , a Canadian store, lists the other two albums but not *Zen.* French Canadian Yahoo also has a page of links to French-Canadian record stores, which may be of help: ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 28 Feb 2001 22:05:10 -0700 From: "Bill" Subject: Heather Nova Today as I worked I played several Heather Nova discs back to back, sort of as my own little Novafest.
