I ask only because I have an interesting proposition to throw out. Don't know if you noticed Anthony Horan's post about Wendy Rule earlier in the week, but we've been working with her to set up some shows in the New Mexico area. (That's an overstatement, as we started yesterday, but I can guarantee at least one, so we're on our way.) We told her about ectofest, and she will likely be in the area at just the right time. If you haven't got everything nailed down, you might want to check her out. It would be pretty cool to have someone from Australia participate. Her web site is the obvious http://www.wendyrule.com She's sending me a big stack of press packs to distribute for her, and she's earmarked one for you. Not sure you guys really need one, but hey, they're nice perks. Let me know what you think. neal ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Feb 2001 00:00:13 -0700 From: Neal Copperman Subject: Ectofest west performers you'd think I'd have learned by now to remove that cc to ecto. I just wanted to share that I got my tickets to the Boston show - should be fantastic! I was a BB fan when they were still together, but alas, was too young (and carless!) and couldn't get to any shows. I'm probably going to miss Sarah Harmer's show tonight in Somerville (shame on me) but I hope those of you who go have fun. I'll also likely be skipping the Tanya Donnelly set next Tuesday at the Kendall Cafe, but I plan to stay home and watch on radioboston.com (I forget if this was already mentioned on-list and I apologize if it has...) I am trying to get a feel for the number of people planning to attend the house concert at EctoWest. The main concert is on Saturday June 9, and there are various options for the house concert. It will probably be scheduled by general consensus on: 1 Friday night 2 Saturday daytime before the Kumbwa concert. (venue is about a half-hour from the Kumbwa) 3 Sunday daytime I want to get a general feel for who/how many may be attending, and which would be their preferred time in a perfect world. (which it will be when Happy performs at the Kumbwa!). Please email me back offline to save plugging up the list with responses. Let me know which would be the best time for you to attend, and if you are interested in helping on the day. Thanks in advance. The current plan is to try and attract local performers ie: Jill Knight, Cyokha Grace, and run about four or five acts for the event. Anyone with talent suggestions, please speak up, preferebly with contact info. Sorry if everyone got all excited about an HR concert in the redwoods! regards Phil ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Feb 2001 13:02:49 -0700 From: "phclark" Subject: Annette Peacock A month or so ago I mentioned the serendipity of Annette Peacock's newest work, Acrobat's Heart. Peter C ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 08 Feb 2001 20:21:17 -0500 From: meredith Subject: ectofests... Hi! Since there is buzz about EctoFestWest here lately, I thought I'd pop in and give you all something else to mark on your calendars: ectofest 2001 will take place this year on Saturday, August 25. (Yes, not Labor Day weekend this year -- for reasons I'm sure many of you can figure out, I don't want the event happening anywhere near my birthday any more. ;) And speaking of EctoWest, it's probably time for the east coasters who are planning on attending to start talking about plans. Who from this time zone is planning to make the cross-country trek? Maybe we can coordinate travel plans, perhaps get a block of hotel rooms, pool rental cars, whatever. (If this talk starts to flood the list, maybe we can set up a separate planning list at smoe ... we'll have to see how that goes.) +==========================================================================+ | Meredith Tarr meth@smoe.org | | New Haven, CT USA http://www.smoe.org/~meth | +==========================================================================+ | "things are more beautiful when they're obscure" -- veda hille | | *** TRAJECTORY, the Veda Hille mailing list: *** | | *** http://www.smoe.org/meth/trajectory.html *** | +==========================================================================+ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Feb 2001 21:05:42 -0500 From: "Foghorn J Fornorn" Subject: RE: Epiphany Project Sharon opined: >> If you like October Project, Loreena McKennitt and >> Lisa Gerrard, I can't see how you'd go wrong with this. OK, I bit. I ordered the CD, as well as Bet Williams and John Hodian's solo efforts, from the epiphanyrecords website. The one without the sound samples :D Sharon's description is apt. It is haunting in parts and always gorgeous, well played and recorded. And the earlier description alluding to bits of Tori and Kate is apropos too. It is also the kind of thing that you probably really need to hear on your stereo, not your computer, unless you've got top of the line soundcard and speakers going for you. Me being the in for a penny, in for a pound kinda guy that I am, I went for the solo works too. Bet's album, Rose Tattoo, is completely different than what you get with Epiphany Project. It has more mainstream appeal, it rocks, let's see, who does it remind me of... perhaps Bonnie Raitt? I'm very bad with genre matching, so take that with a grain of salt. And some tequila. It's a great album for a bar or a party. John's album, Available Forms, is a 1990 release. It reminds me a little of Philip Glass, and also of Pierre Moerlein's Gong. Instrumental, lots of percussion, and piano. Seemingly repetitive on the surface, but there really is a lot going on. Good music to study by. Or write emails. They're all worth checking out. Hope to get to see them sometime too. Thanks to Sharon for the rec. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Feb 2001 22:16:40 -0500 From: Paul Blair Subject: RE: Epiphany Project Fog wrote: >Sharon's description is apt. I saw Epiphany Project last night at the West End Cafe. Personally I wasn't all that overwhelmed, but perhaps it was because I was preoccupied. However, Epiphany Project is probably not for those who like their music edgy. The style reminded me somewhat of Kat Devlin's--perhaps it was the somewhat cabaret-ish piano with female vocal thing--but I thought Bet Williams' vocals were more conventional in style than Kat Devlin's. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 09 Feb 2001 00:05:10 -0500 From: recount chocula Subject: jane siberry news one would assume that one need not forward jane's museletters to ecto since all janefan ectophiles are probably already receiving them. but one never knows. >Date: Thu, 8 Feb 2001 23:19:11 -0500 >To: sib@sheeba.ca >From: S H E E B A >Subject: MUSELETTER 2.8.2001 LATE NIGHT TV > >TELEVISION PERFORMANCE/INTERVIEW >Wednesday, February 14 >Midnight EST. > >'Open Mike' with Mike Bullard >A Canadian late night talk show. > > 'The hottest Canadian talk show on the air, > hosted by Mike Bullard, it has already carved > a strong niche in the International markets...' > >Jane was horrified to see Debbie Gibson >do a handstand on Mike's desk. >She has never been able to do them. > >Filmed before a live audience. >Toronto February 14 at 6pm. > >For more information or tickets: >http://www.open-mike.com/tickets.html >or call 888-394-mike or 416-934-4737 > > >http://www.sheeba.ca 416.921.1364 416.921.0024 fax >Suite 291 - 238 Davenport Road, Toronto, Ontario, Canada M5R 1J6 >Sign up for the Siberry MUSELETTER on website.
