Andrew, Odd you should mention the new Mary Fahl CD, Lenses of Contact. I just popped Lenses of Contact on the 'ole CD player. I have to admit that I was one of those people who pre-ordered the CD because I'm a huge October Project fan. I've been enthralled by Mary Fahl's voice ever since I first heard it, and I'm convinced that Sony's decision to drop October Project is one of the dumbest decisions in music-making history. (Fortunately, November Project, the reincarnation of October Project, is wonderful. But I digress.) As an October Project fan, it was hard to listen to Lenses of Contact and not think of this as just another October Project CD. Once I was able to shake that notion out of my head, I could appreciate Mary Fahl's Lenses of Contact on its own merits. If you love October Project, you'll love Lenses of Contact. Mary Fahl's voice is as incredible, lovely, haunting, and beautiful as ever. It is rich and vibrant, with a quality that puts Mary Fahl in a class of her own. No matter what, it's hard not to compare Lenses of Contact to October Project. Fahl's singing style is different on her solo CD than it was with October Project; it's more forceful and a little less ethereal. The songs on Lenses of Contact are about love, relationships and loss, but I don't think that the lyrics are as strong on this CD as they are on the first October Project CD, for instance. But there are only four songs on Lenses of Contact, so perhaps the full-length album will be different. All in all, Lenses of Contact was worth the wait. - --Bill n.p. Some reason, I have some doubt with this Magna Music label. Ordered the first day they accepted and still no sign of it? But they sure did hit my credit card (and tried to bill twice!). For those looking for a somewhat "October Project" sound, you can try November Project (Emil's new gig) or Sylvia Tosun (www.sylviatosun.com) who co-wrote a couple of songs with October Project members. I ordered it based on ecto recommendation, and have been quite happy with it...
