I recently installed one in our sleek, high-powered, super-snazzy Toyota minivan. The Aiwa CD-MP3 player actually makes me enjoy driving our minivan. The CD-MP3 player plays both regular CDs and MP3 discs. You can put up to 10 hours of music on a single MP3 disc, which for me means that I can drive from Washington, DC to New England and not have to play CD roulette even once. It's really wonderful. And not only does the Aiwa play MP3 discs, but it displays the name of the artist and song that you're listening to. It has a random mode, as well as other nifty features. The faceplate is removable, so you can quickly make it look like somebody has already stolen your radio. When the faceplate is off, a little red light on what's left of the radio blinks, making it appear as if you have a car alarm. I mail-ordered my Aiwa CD-MP3 player from Crutchfield, www.crutchfield.com. It's $300. The radio/player comes with an installation kit tailored to your car. I have to say that it is great to pop in a disc that not only has nearly 10 hours of music, but 10 hours of just those songs that I've selected. One day our minivan will die. It will probably be replaced by an equally exciting vehicle. But the Aiwa CD-MP3 player will definitely move into the new car. - --Bill n.p. How sick is that?! (One of the things in the load, > which pissed me off the most was my Moon Seven Times t-shirt. Argh. :P) Sick maybe, but desperate definately. I had a couple loads swiped one time. One was underwear and socks and the other was a denim load with 4 pairs of jeans and a brand new Levi's jacket. That was a damn expensive jacket and I guess it serves me right since I had boycotted Levi Strauss for charging so damn much for denim jeans. I had just bought the jacket and before I even got to wear it, it was gone. Ooh well, I bought another brand for about half the cost and I still wear it. I figure if someone is desperate enough to steal a load of underwear and socks, they probably need it more the I do. I hope they have worn them well. I have lost a few car radios also, and large numbers of CDs and tapes, but fuck it, at least someone, somewhere got some great music to hear on their new radio. Additionally, a 1/4 lb. of skunk got swiped from my car one time. That truly pissed me off. gReG ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 26 Jan 2001 13:32:20 -0500 (CDT) From: GSS Subject: Re: dirty israeli > It's where Israel and Iran and Iraq and all those countries are. Digging into the dark corners of my brain, I remember this being brought up way back when (1994 maybe?) but there was never an answer. Only reason I'm asking is a friend of mine is something of a talented musician, and does the coffee shop circuit in the SF area and I was going to give her "the Wretches Gone Awry" which is the only song I've ever sat down and plunked through (guitar is NOT my strong point.) So it got me thinking, (always a scarey proposition) that I can go and pull TAB for just about every Richard Shindell song ever written, but I've never seen an iota of Happy's. Admittedly, a number of songs wouldn't work in an acoustic format, but heck, I've always felt that exposure at any price is okay... Oh well, just curious... The Classic CD-MP3 player, which is also the least expensive, is IMHO, the best. Good battery life, good playback quality, and it displays the name of the album, artist and song. It features 45-Second Anti-Shock Protection for the more active users and is also MP3 playback and CD-R/RW compatible so you can use it with today's latest technology's."
