"second avenue detour" is a collection of remixes and deconstructions of the songs on Lisa's "second avenue", in different breakbeat/jungle styles. "teflon diva" is electronica based on Lisa's songs, Lisa vocal samples, and some Susan McKeown samples. "klondyke 5" is also based on Lisa samples including some from Lisa's live acoustic stuff. go to http://www.arthurlovesplastic.com/ for brief explanations, and to http://www.machineheart.com/ if you'd like to buy any of ALP's (or Lisa's) stuff. end plug, -veronica ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Dec 2000 02:01:54 -0600 (CST) From: WretchAwry Subject: Kirsty I'm so shocked, I can't think straight. This hurts like Jeff Buckley's death. I'd met Kirsty a couple of times, and even got to interview her for my radio show years ago. She was so nice, fun and friendly, very down-to-earth. She has a wonderful, distictive voice and (with a few understandable lapses) was a damned good songwriter. She was also a helluva cover artist and collaborator (she made "Days" her own and worked miracles in "Fairytale of New York" among other accomplishments). I've been a fan since Kite was released (the LP cover is hanging in my kitchen and it's still my favorite Kirsty album) and I'm going to miss her terribly. My 24hr Shoutcast broadcast is going to rotate on Kirsty's songs only for the next couple of days. I don't have all her music mp3'd, but there's a pretty good sampling in the playlist. Vickie ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Dec 2000 11:38:39 +0100 From: "Marcel Rijs" Subject: Nordman Hi, Has anyone on the list ever heard of Nordman? I'm thinking especially of our Scandinavian members, since it's a Swedish band. Apparently they were very popular in the mid-90's. I've just bought their album "Ingenmansland" from Skivhugget.se after a recommendation and it's very interesting music. I guess it classifies as "folkpop", because of the high 'singalong'-factor. A good example is the song "Det sista du ser" which is introduced by a flute with a very strong melody which continues throughout the track. I can't seem to find any info on the band on the Web, only a very old 'official' looking homepage. From my Swedish teacher I understand that the singer is now in jail since he used drugs and alcohol. Also received "Vintervisor med Triakel", the new album of this trio, and was mildly impressed. I never liked Triakel that much but since I'm a sucker for December-music, I had to have this album. Their version of "Innan Gryningen" is less beautiful than the CD-single by Emma Hardelin which was released last year, but to make up for this, there are quite a few astonishing tracks. The lyrics vary from very funny ("hej hej hej" and "hopp hopp hopp" made me laugh) to 'probably very spiritual'. My Swedish is still at novice level so I couldn't tell. The melodies are, as often with Scandinavian music, strong and quite memorable. All in all, no regrets for this order. I'll still be looking for more Nordman info though! We may release it ourselves. Most likely we will be sharing the rights to the album with Capitol. If someone is going to release it on Napster or in mp3 format it should be the band or Castle von Buhler. You will hear it but you must be patient. It will be in your greedy little hands this year. I promise. The band is working on a new album as well. Have a good holiday and thanks for all of your support! Rob Buck was responsible for so much of their sound, with that large rack of shimmering guitars. Enjoy the new music that you have ... you just don't know how long you'll be able to get more from your favorite artists. I didn't have a chance to listen to music at work today, but I'll be tuning in tomorrow for sure. I had "Innocence" going through my head all day. Also, at the BBC's web site, there is a place for fans to post their tributes to Kirsty. Notes are pouring in from all over the world. Her music clearly touched a lot of people.
