Neal Copperman sez: :Made me wonder if there are any more excellent cello-oriented groups :out there I could pass along. Apocalyptica. =) They're pretty much summed up with the quote from the website (www.apocalyptica.com): "Simply, there is no other band like Finland's Apocalyptica - a four-strong collective of classically-tutored cellists (with attitude!) who have successfully brought together the seemingly disparate worlds of classical music & hard rock without diluting either one." They're probably best-known for their Metallica covers ("Plays Metallica By Four Cellos" and some of "Inquisition Symphony"), but there are some original tunes on "Inquisition Symphony" and apparently a lot more on the new album. - -Cathy np - Voltaire, "Almost Human" - -- cathy @ radix.net ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Oct 2000 20:30:53 EDT From: ABershaw@aol.com Subject: Re: cool cellists? (with house concert content to boot) Hi, Regarding cool cellists, I had to mention Renata Bratt. She's technically gifted AND brilliantly creative, a great combination. She's certainly been a key element on several Cindy Lee Berryhill albums and in my opinion, CLB's "Garage Orchestra" shows her off best. She also did some beautiful (but less playful) work on Joy Eden Harrison's "Unspoken", my personal favorite release last year. Also, to tie in to the "house concert" thread, CLB and Renata together released a house concert CD from the legendary Living Room Tour called "Living Room 16". Renata's creativity and sense of humor are very evident on this. It was the most packed I'd ever seen Toad's Place, until the Cranberries came to town. When was that? 1993 or 1994? I thought you had that crowd thing worked out. I haven't figured out what to do about the cancelation thing. My show this weekend had 16 people, which was pretty good for me. (I had 20 RSVPs, 5 no shows, and 1 non-RSVP'ed attendee. Also 2 cancelations that I took off the count.) For Cindy Lee, with the newspaper coverage, I had 33 RSVP's before I declared the show sold out, and 18 people came. Pretty lame, huh? I'm never telling anyone they can't come again. New plan is that spots are held until 15 minutes before, and then anyone can come in. >Jessie Turner is originally from Amherst, Massachusetts, and now makes her >home in the San Francisco area. Sounds pretty interesting, though you aren't gushing that much :) Should I write to her? It looks likely that Laurianne Fiorentino will be on KUNM again on Monday night, 10:00 NM time. If anyone wants to check her out, you can get a live feed off of www.kunm.unm.edu. Not a guaranteed thing, though that'll hook you in to the global music show, which is usually fun to listen to anyway. neal np: Scandinavian Sampler Volume 1 (currently Ingy) - Thanks Anna Maria! ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Oct 2000 22:30:31 -0700 From: Neile Graham Subject: Sara Ayers News For those interested. - --Neile >Subject: Sara Ayers News >From: Sara Ayers >To: neile@sff.net > >***** SaraAyersNews: The Sara Ayers Mailing List ****** > >Hello, hello! > >A quick note to let you know I've posted >a new song (mp3 file) on my MP3.com site >(http://www.mp3.com/saraayers) > >Strand of Pearls: a dreamy, elliptical journey >into memory. > >************************************ > >The Sylvatica reviews are beginning to stack >up; you can read them here (you have to scroll >down the page a little): > > http://www.saraayers.com/read.htm > > >************************************ > >Work continues on the new CD, as untitled. >I'm hoping to finish recording by the end >of the year, but I'll keep you posted. > >************************************ > >That's it for this time...Thanks again for >all your support and encouragement! > > -- Sara > > >Sara Ayers web site: http://www.saraayers.com >---------------------------------------------- >Get Me Off This List!
