I've never heard the song but I hear he used a sample of her song 'Thank you" from "No Angel". Should be interesting. :-) ~Eric It's hardly a "sample" - he basically dubbed the entire song to his own CD and rapped over it. Now there's talent. Anyway, Dido seems good-natured about it, as she does about everything. In fact, she has such positive energy about her that you just can't help but feel good listening, whether she's singing or doing an interview. The Eminem duet will be interesting indeed...one thing that's certain is her performance will shine! :) Dan ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 29 Sep 2000 17:33:07 -0400 From: Bill Adler Subject: RE: songs and associations There's no question that certain songs bring back fond memories. I often take a CD player to the dentist. (It beats having to strain to hold up your end of the conversation.) Anyway, I used to be worried that some of my favorite songs would forever be associated with dentist visits, but that hasn't happened. Many songs instantly whisk me back to a different, often distant, time and place. Sometimes particular songs --some Beatles, Rolling Stones and Yes tunes-- can take me all the way back to high school. - --Bill n.p. Other people just walk through life without really paying much attention to the music around them at all. Very interesting... And I, Loretta, must add, that a few summers ago, I lived with a Chinese woman -- a woman who had grown up in China and moved to the US only a few years ago. Her "American" name was Maggie (her chinese name was lovely, but she only told me two days before she left, so I forget it now, but I don't know why she didn't just tell me that straight off, but that's neither here nor there). Anyway, "Maggie" had grown up without music. That's what she said. I don't know what kind of conditions exist in China, whether this is common or just her life or what, and I don't mean to make an anti-China statement or anything, I'm just telling you the story. And apparently she just never, ever heard music as a child or young woman. Now, at the age of 30, she could barely tell different kinds of music apart. She couldn't remember tunes after she heard them. And even sadder, she just didn't enjoy music at all. Isn't that awful? It just couldn't get past her ears. I guess I'm lucky I grew up with my grandma teaching me to play piano and stuff. take care, Loretta Bill Adler www.adlerbooks.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 29 Sep 2000 16:37:16 -0700 From: Neile Graham Subject: Kaitlyn Ni Donovan Hi, all-- We just got a copy of a local small chain's (Silver Platters) newsletter, and it has a wonderful review of Kaitlyn Ni Donovan's _Songs for 'Three Days'_, which I've touted her a couple of times. I just love it when someone else gets what I hear in music. He says some great, true things, like "Kaitlyn Ni Donovan is one of those rare artists who appear quietly out of nowhere and blow you away, sounding better and better until you realize you've stumbled onto something special." I couldn't have said it better myself! There are a several other particularly wonderful comments, like the description, "Shunning convention, she weaves her tranquil moods like theead into pastoral blankets of guitar, violin, viola, mandolin, and ukulele, layering her hauntingly beautiful melodies over refreshingly unorthodox chord changes" and "Ni Donovan's breathy voice is the kind one can dive into, enveloping the listener in a cocoon of comfort and warmth. Always caressing. Always wonderful." I wish I'd said that. - --Neile - ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Neile Graham ...... http://www.sff.net/people/neile ....... neile@sff.net Les Semaines: A Weekly Journal . http://www.sff.net/people/neile/semaines The Ectophiles' Guide to Good Music ....... http://www.smoe.org/ectoguide ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 29 Sep 2000 21:21:22 -0400 From: Bill Adler Subject: Re: Kaitlyn Ni Donovan Wow. I just downloaded her MP3, Ceiling Tiles. Yes -- I agree with those comments. She has a seductive, lush voice. If Kaitlyn Ni Donovan's CD, which I've just ordered, is half as good as the MP3, it's a great CD. - --Bill n.p.
