Thanks for sharing your similar experience. I can understand the impact that The Strawbs "Hero & Heroine" had on you. "Hero & Heroine" is a beautiful and wonderfully well crafted album. It is #45 on my personal Top 100 albums/CDs of all time. "Autumn" is a gorgeous song. The song on this CD that always sends chills up my spine though is "Midnight Sun". David Cousin's voice, his lyrics, and the acoustic guitar work make this a very special song to me. Bill M. It was a fairly solid show, at a surprisingly nice venue, but Melissa seemed a little out of sorts--not real pleased with the crowd (they wnated to sit on the dance floor rather than stand or dance). So, no encores, but a prety solid set. She's got a drummer and bassist with her on this tour--the first time I've seen her for about 5 years. She focused primarily on new stuff and stuff from the latest album Freedom. I was surprised by the number of songs I hadn't heard before. The oldest song she played was Willing to Wait--which she opened with--nothing of the first album. :( The closer was a pretty cool song--combination gay anthem/fan appreciation/life on the road song. She also did something I've never seen her do before-- a cover--of ANi DiFranco's Untouchable Face and also a medly of assorted songs with one of her own-- forget mostof them now except I know it ended with a rockabilly sounding I Kissed a Girl and Roxanne. Anyway, wished it would have been a longer set with more old stuff--but that's just my taste. Overall a good show, that surprisingly had a very good turnout (at least for Albuquerque on a Tuesday night), but wished there would have been an encore and been more organized about selling CDs (no Neal-- I didn't pick up herlatest for you). Dunno how ectophilic, but there's always the classic "Free to Be You and Me", and "Schoolhouse Rock". I believe Shawn Colvin's done a kids' disc. Plus there's "Peter Paul and Mommy". I have an old cassette somewhere of "Songs for CompuKids". The only song I can remember from it is "Bit by Bit on the Serial Bus". Hey, all-- Mary Lydia Ryan just emailed me to let me know that Veda will be joining her and Jill Sobule and Carrie Akre at their Oct. 5th benefit concert for Northwest Harvest Food Bank at the Tractor Tavern. Please, if you live in the area, consider coming to this! Mary Lydia has worked hard to pull this off, and she, the other artists, and Northwest Harvest deserve the support.
