Your brother must be talking about IMAC in Huntington? It used to be a movie theatre and now is a fantastic venue! I live all of about 10 minutes from it. I've seen Robert Fripp there, Projeckt 2, Allan Holdsworth: more than once, Bill Bruford, Larry Carlton, Steps Ahead, John Scoffield, ufff I know i'm forgetting someone lol... and others..(...) Its really a great little theatre! The acoustics are GREAT not to mention there isn't a bad seat in the house! (when I saw Robert play, he looped the sounds of his guitar and then went and sat in the audience listening, which was incredibly funny;) Well, if that is the same theatre, I second your brother's good word! And of course, I personally would LOve to see Happy and/or Bon in my hometown :) Okay, just caught my attention and thought I'd lend my 2 cents.. Suzanne PS. Thanks to everyone who sent in Ectofest reports! I've enjoyed reading them :)) _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. First of all, a big thanks to Chuck and Joe, who brought me to their house to hang out, eat, and drink three nights in a row while I was in Danbury. It was truly exceptional hospitality. Of course, I did have to put up with two to four dogs trying to vie for my attention, beg for food, or run around underfoot while I was there :-). The event itself was terrific. It looked like everybody had a good time, and the park was pleasant (as long as you didn't mind the thick scattering of goose poop in the grass). Chuck and Meredith did a great job of organizing the show, even though part of the time they seemed too stressed out to appreciate how well it was going. For me the highlights were Anne O'Meara Heaton, Amy Fairchild, Susan McKeown, Sloan Wainwright, and of course the Hapster herself. Jessica Weiser wasn't too bad, although there were some times when her singing seemed to go flat. Merrie Amsterburg didn't really pull me in when she started playing while I was farther away from the pavilion, but after hearing a couple of her CD tracks later I regretted not having paid a little more attention. I found Anne Heaton particularly charming, particularly when it started raining during her song "Water", and she finally called us all up under the roofed pavilion while rearranging her keyboard and the sound guys turned one of the speaker stacks inward. Susan McKeown was excellent as always, and it was even more surprising to find out that she was feeling under the weather but did a great set anyway. Happy actually hung around out where people could talk to her for a while before her set, so I did get a chance to introduce myself, say "hi", and shake hands. Don't worry, I haven't stopped washing it. Happy's set was absolutely stunning, and sure to please any hardcore Happy fan. Some time into the first song, I was listening as if it was just another CD track, until it struck me that hey, wait a minute, this is the real Happy Rhodes singing LIVE RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME AND OH MY GOD . . . . I don't think there was any significant outward reflection of what was going on in my head, but mentally I was about ready to blink out for a few seconds with the wonder of it all. Listening to all her old "suicide songs" was heavenly, and "Summer" live was just as spine-tingling as the version on _Rhodesongs_. Since no one else seems to have mentioned it yet, one of the songs I remember in the set was "The Revelation", because after hearing the young Buddhist monk Reverend Wisdom speak on behalf of the Interfaith AIDS Ministry, it occurred to me that the lyrics of "The Revelation" have some distinctly Buddhist themes ("the only reality isn't real at all"). And like so many other people who've seen Happy live, seeing for real that her voice comes out of her body and really isn't some studio trick was truly amazing. I also got to see many more Ectophiles whose names and posts have gone by in the list over the years. I was especially pleased to finally meet Angelos Kyrlidis after all this time, although he confused me momentarily by introducing me with the Anglicized "Angelo"; both he and I had our original Ecto t-shirts on, which is mainly how I guessed that he must be one of the earliest Ectophiles. It was also great to see Valerie Nozick, Kiri Hargie, Neal Copperman, woj, and Jeff Wasilko again after meeting them in my previous travels. And of course I met a whole lot of other people too, so don't feel bad if I didn't mention your name. The whole thing confirmed that Ectophiles really are some of the coolest people around. It's probably too early to make any absolute statement, but I'm strongly considering going again next year. ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V6 #258 **************************
