Ohyao, ECTO-taku: Apart from the Jane Siberry song already mentioned, the only two canine-related tracks I know I have come from Yoko Kanno's score to the Japanese TV anime series _Cowboy Bebop_ - "Bad Dog, No Biscuits" (an instrumental used in Episode 2, "Stray Dog Strut") and "Doggy Dog" (used in three different arrangements for Episode 7, "Heavy Metal Queen"). The former is on the first _Bebop_ soundtrack CD (JVC-Victor VICL-60201), and the latter turns up on the shorter second disc, _Vitaminless_ (also JVC-Victor, VICL-60248). Animenation.com (http://www.animenation.com/) is probably the best source for both. And for those still scratching behind their ears... one of _Bebop_'s main characters is a genetically-engineered Welsh Corgi named Ein. I got disconnected from Napster last night and had a hard time getting back on. That's not unusual so I went elsewhere (johnmerricks.squidcafe.com) for a while then tried again later. I was able to get on, but was immediately confronted with a screen that told me that I had been banned from Napster. Not from Metallica or Dr. Dre (I'd eat jagged glass shards before I'd have their music on my list) but by an Iranian singer named Googoosh! Googoosh's story is really interesting and easily confirmed. She was very famous...beloved...worshipped! in Iran but went underground when the revolution happened in the 70s. It's against the law there for a woman to sing, at least where a man can hear her. She stayed in Iran, donned one of those horrible outfits that covered her from head to toe, and disappeared from public view. Recently, with the relaxing of Iranian rules, she was allowed to leave the country for concerts in Canada and the US and the Iranian community is rightfully filled with ecstatic joy. She is *WONDERFUL*! I never would have known about her if not for Napster. I'm not Iranian, but I saw a man who had files labeled as "Persian music" and I tried some of them. I immediately fell in love with this woman's voice and music. Then I found out more about her, and was pleased to see an article on the front page of the Chicago Tribune a few weeks ago telling her story. I never thought I'd be banned from Napster by her! Oh I know, it was probably her record company, but when you're banned you get a message saying "You have been banned by " and it very clearly said Googoosh. I of course have no problems with her personally. Since Metallica and Dre have gotten all the publicity (and people like me who tend to stick to obscure female artists have said, well, it's not like *I'll* ever have a Metallica or Dre song on my list!) I find it interesting that lesser-known artists are starting to get in on the act. My computers are not sharing Googoosh songs anymore, btw. I'm really not too worried about it, I still have computers on Napster (GaffaServer is still on for now, knock on wood) and my computer (vickieannmapes) is on one of the unofficial Napster servers (johnmerricks.squidcafe.com...damn I knew Napigator would come in handy!) and I can always get back on if I want to mess around with the registry. I'm more amused and puzzled (Googoosh??) than anything. I've known Amy for a little while so I know what she's capable of doing musically. The album is very sparse; minimal production with a concentration on Amy's one-of-a-kind voice and her colorful lyrics. For those who saw her on the Girls Room tour, the album is less dynamic than her live performance but sometimes 'less' is better. Her style can be compared to Victoria Williams, Kate Campbell, and perhaps a little Patty Griffin at times. [Victoria, by the way, was pulled on stage by Amy at the Girls Room finale held in Los Angeles a few weeks back.] Those in LA can catch her during a month-long residency at Luna Park in September. I believe she also opened for Julia Fordham last night at Largo. >Date: Tue, 22 Aug 2000 16:56:33 EDT >From: RocketsTail@aol.com >Subject: Carnival Love: Amy Correia's debut album > > Amy Correia's album "Carnival Love" will be released September 12th, I can't >wait!!!! ~ERic HotBot - Search smarter. http://www.hotbot.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Aug 2000 14:37:42 EDT From: "Belew Girl" Subject: dog songs The first dog song to pop into my head is Seamus from Meddle by Pink Floyd.. which even includes a dog whinning and/or barking. Like many folks here, I have been negligent in respect to Brunatex. I got my cd in the mail, promptly shipped to me from Australia, and I still haven't put together a review. I like to listen to things multiple times before I try to put my thoughts into words, and I haven't done that yet. However, initial listens made it clear that I really enjoyed the music.
