I am pretty sure that the lines have already been drawn in this matter, so I will have the pleasure of pontificating and some free association rather than engaging in a meaningful discourse on the matter any further. Well, that's pretty much what I did the last time anyway.... *Although there is a good chance in my estimation that the RIAA already has the "Fix" in on their lawsuit against Napster, I do not believe that they are truly ready for the backlash that will follow either the abolition of Napster, Scour, and the like, or the legal pursuit of an individual using the program to trade Metallica MP3s. There is already talk of boycotts against RIAA Labels among the Napster and Scour communities. Something that these RIAA jukebox - - thugs have underestimated is the power of this thing here; This thing that made "Blair Witch Project" an overnight success, and Mahir a pop Icon, just as they have also under-estimated the ability of these millenium-generation kids to see through hyperbole. These kids are becoming the tail that wags the dog. *As was aptly pointed out, since the invention of Gnutella, the Napster issue is moot. We have a time honored tradition here in the U.S. of not being able to keep illegal aliens and drugs from crossing our physical borders...or drugs, alcohol and nudie books out of the hands of children. Now most scientists will agree that an illegal alien is very large when compared to an electron. Anyone who has a real idea of how to un invent the technology to make MP3s from CDAs and share them via gnutella please do expound. Your solution may serve as a model to remedy a greater problem, how to un invent the atomic bomb. *Any musical artist who feels entitled to a decadent life should consider the lilies of the field. I have. That lifestyle is selfish, and should only be lived by record company exec's and their lap dogs, not an artist, not somebody who wants to share, not somebody who has any worth. *The fact that the RIAA has the ability to pursue this recent legal course of action at all costs is because they have the deep pockets to do so after preying upon intellectually challenged teens for their parent's hard earned cash since the invention of radio. Isn't it about time they stopped the filching? Isn't it about time *you* admitted that you were not as cool as you thought you were when you succumbed to the hype and bought that Foreigner album? *Finally, does anybody really feel sorry for Metallica? C'mon! They suck. They always have. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 May 2000 01:18:40 -0400 From: Joseph Zitt Subject: Re: Napster Suits and the 400 pound Gnutella Gorilla On Mon, May 29, 2000 at 01:55:34AM -0400, Ted Jacobs wrote: > *Finally, does anybody really feel sorry for Metallica? They didn't intend to be the poster children for corporate greed. And I would not agree either that they suck or that they always have. "Master of Puppets" blasted my ears wide open when it first hit, and, while I miss their earlier rhythmic intricacies, I enjoy their more recent, more melodic material. The S&M album is a fun lark. - -- |> ~The only thing that is not art is inattention~ --- Marcel Duchamp <| | jzitt@metatronpress.com http://www.metatronpress.com/jzitt | | Latest CD: Jerusaklyn http://www.mp3.com/josephzitt | | Comma: Voices of New Music Silence: the John Cage Discussion List | ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 May 2000 02:23:38 -0400 From: Ted Jacobs Subject: Re: Napster Suits and the 400 pound Gnutella Gorilla Well IMHO they suck. Saw Marc Almond play Södra Teatern in Stockholm on the 27th. He was on top form singing stuff from his new album as well as old favourites. He was accompanied by two muso looking blokes on keyboard and guitar. A somewhat shaky start with Night and dark from the new album was followed by a brilliant voodootingued Black Kiss. Then he elected to play some old songs, the highlight being the dramatic Black Heart. Throughout he made theatrical gestures, displayed those famous tattoos and flirted with all parts of the audience. The jazzy When Bad People Kiss and the pithy Catch a Fallen star shone. And yes he did play Tainted Love..We all screamed like teenagers at a Backstreet Boys concert. He ended with the stunning Tears Run Rings which reminded me of why I've been a Marc fan all these years.
