Adam wrote.. Really good, trip-hoppy kind of stuff, sort of Morcheeba/Sneaker Pimps. I was so impressed, I did what I so rarely do and asked the guy behind the counter what was playing. Turned out it was Kylie's latest cd. It didn't do too well, as it alienated her old fans and non-fans remained so, but I always remember really liking what I heard. Just goes to show, I suppose..... Yes..I have that cd and can recommend it. After thinking she was the antichrist my mind was changed by her duet with Nick Cave. Her latest cd is as good as anything by Sneaker Pimps or Morcheeba. She has a new single out soon which is written by Paula Abdul. It's about a cheating man apperently. All together now:I hate you so much right now..AARGH! Jorane seems damn cool too. Another one for my endless list. Still havent got Fiona Apple. Oh well. Slick production to mask mediocre lyrics and so-so instrumentation. Lots of energy, but overall a lacklustre effort. Where Tragic Kingdom was fun and loose, this album tries way too hard. This is unfortunately an example of a band who wouldn't have a contract right now if it weren't for the lead singer's looks. >also, i was debating whether or not to get tara maclean's _passenger_. i >could get it for about $8, but i was underwhelmed by _silence_. i really >like the song "evidence" and i liked some of the other tracks, but the album >didn't demand to be listened to. You'll find the same thing with Passenger. "Underwhelmed" is a great word for the reaction I've had to Tara all along, actually. Nettwerk is pushing for her to be the next Sarah McLachlan, but remember that it took her almost ten years to find her stride, too. (Sad, then, that it only took two more for Sarah to lose it. ) Tara's young yet, and musically has been getting better over the past few years. This album has a few nice spots, perhaps worth the $8 just for the odd spin, but I haven't thrown it in since the obligatory four listens after it arrived in the mail. Biggest mistake on the album: track 10, La Tempête. All in hackneyed French, and it sounds as clunky as what I try to use at clubs on trips to Montreal. It still has their defiant, immediate style, but they're playing with it more, it's more loose and effortless with this go-'round, and I'm really impressed... I've only just finished my first listen, so I'll have to say more in a few days... but wow. And I got Mary Timony's _Mountains_ today along with the new S-K... I'm listening to it right now... I never thought I'd live to see the day I'd use both Liz Phair and Loreena McKennitt in describing an album... it's like if Liz had really dug the whole fantasy thing, but in a really 80s way... it's a bit too authentic to be the new Labyrinth soundtrack, but at the same time, it's way too indie-rock in its production style to be accepted by the purist Ren-Fest kinda community, too... they want Loreena McKennitt's first album, dern it! ;D Anyhow... I'm not even THROUGH with my listen of this CD... but I'll be able to talk about it a bit more succinctly once I've had time to absorb it... But I love both albums seriously so far. S-K just keeps being the best rock band in the world. YEAH. Mordam (KRS' distributor) doesn't seem to care about release dates (they only list shipdates) so anyone can pretty much sell stuff they distribute as soon as it comes in. I've been selling that cd for the past couple days [$10.25] (new 7" too! $3.15) and I don't think I'm breaking any rules. http://www.tweekitten.com [heck, they're selling it by mailorder on their own site this week: www.mordamrecords.com] funny thing about release dates: the latest release on my label (the brilliantly intoxicating full length by UK Sensation THE RELATIONSHIPS, featuring guest vocals by AMELIA FLETCHER on two tracks, plug!) ended up being listed on cdnow with a may 16 release date, and practically all other barcode-oriented sites (like amazon.com) as 2 days ago, and it's been available in indie record stores for over a month, so I wouldn't put much faith in what you read as a "release date" unless the disc is on like Arista or Warner Bros, where if you sell something early mafioso people are going to kidnap you, lock you in a dark room and make you listen to hours of whitney houston on end until you promise not to break their rulez again. [ok, that's not actually true, but I do think they would take some sort of action] - -Scott > Y'all, > Okay, so I bought the new Sleater-Kinney album today... it's called _All hands on the bad one_ and it's not on official release yet... the big day is 2 May, but until then, there are apparently stores all over the country that have advance copies of it... anyhow... the music is astonishing, they've grown even MORE, weird!
