Well, sort of 'classic' ecto in a way. But we are all music lovers here, so I thought I'd try my hand all the same. I am in search of The Travelling Wilbury's Vol 1. Yes, I know it is out of print..and I also know how hard it is to find. Which is why I'm checking here as well. I'd like to find it for 30 dollars or less. Does anyone have a line on where I coudl check, (I'm already watching e-bay) or where I might get one. You can post here or write me directly. Either way, I and my father (for whom I am doing this favor) thank you. I actually did look for you at the Cowboy Junkies concert. But I thought you were working the light booth, and only yesterday when I was going through my e-mails did I realize you said the Lifebeat booth. Maybe sometime we'll catch up with each other. 3) On the subject of covers. I think Alanis Morrisette's 2nd album SFIJ has an awful cover. I almost didn't buy Imogen Heap's I Megaphone because of the cover. (good thing i got over it and bought the album anyway) As for good covers, I agree with the Cocteau Twins approvals, and I think Emily Bezar's covers have been good too. My introduction to Jane Siberry was actually because I saw the Maria album in the store, and I was so intrigued by the album cover. I knew I was going to love her, and I do. Also, high thumbs up to Mary Lydia Ryan for the Diaphanous cover. I would love to have a poster of it. Another poster mentions that the album has been available since last Monday in Luxembourg. There are video clips of rehearsals for the new album up at the band's new website, , as well as lots of other stuff. Warning: The entire site is in Flash, no alternative. She's from Colombia, of arabic origin, and is all the rage in South America. I first discovered her on amazon, while I was searching for music by Mana (an excellent mexican rock band, which is also highly recommended for those who liked the Police and early Pearl Jam). I listened to a couple of her songs and then decided to try her album "Donde estan los ladrones?". At first she sounded too much like Alanis Morissette and for a couple of months I dismissed her as a clone. However, during my recent trip I learned all about her from my niece and realized just how immensely popular she is there. Seeing a few clips of her MTV unplugged convinced me about how good she is. Her song 'Ojos asi' is simply a brilliant amalgam of cultures. She has three albums out: "Piez descalzos" (I recently got this and don't have an opinion) "Donde estan los ladrones" (Excellent) "MTV Unplugged" (songs are mostly from Donde estan.. but rearranged and turned into something unique) I hear she will be releasing an english language album later this year, but figured that you may want to check her out earlier. She may be touring the US later this year. That's it for now. Back to lurking... Angelos np. Yes! And thanks for the reminder. I was in a CD store a while back where they were playing this, and watch person after person go to the desk and ask what it was. I didn't buy it, having already maxed my EWS earlier in the day -- and thereafter blanked on the name. I've been a huge fan for about a year or so now. The first song I heard of hers was Te Espero Sentada from "Pies Descalzos." I enjoy both Pies and "Donde estan los ladrones" but listen to the latter far more often. It was in my player for a couple of months straight. I also have the Remix album when I was on a "buy anything Shakira kick," but am not fond of remixes so never listen to it. I think she's brilliant- and for those who don't speak Spanish, she provides the lyrics. Albeit, she doesn't give translations, but gives you a leg-up on figuring the songs out. ;-) Favorite songs: Inevitable Octavo Dia Ojos Asi Te Espero Sentada Enjoy! :-) Heidi On Sun, 12 Mar 2000, Angelos Kyrlidis wrote: > Hi all, > > I have been unsubscribed for a couple of months now due to a holiday > trip to Chile and Argentina and a lack of free time, but I had to get > back to let you know about an amazing artist named Shakira. > > She's from Colombia, of arabic origin, and is all the rage in South > America.
