Another Ectophile in the making...:) Sorry I've been absent...I'm lurking, but I've been very ill and am just now starting to remain vertical for long periods of time. It seems that pregnancy at 40 is a bit rougher than I remember it being at 30. And speaking of that other one...she has a new Goddess, who has supplanted the three Goddesses previously at #1 in her pantheon. Yes folks, Sheryl Crow has bumped KaTe, Happy, and Merrill Bainbridge (huh??...go figure the mind of a ten-year-old) down to a three-way tie for #2. Well, at least she's not listening to Brittany Spears or that Christina person like all of her classmates. Anyway, best of luck on the 'fest. Maybe I should just shoot for 2001? My least favorite has to be Gene Loves Jezebel's "Discover" Cover. It reminds me of the (very short) period of my life when I wore stuff like them. Followed closley by "Dry Lungs (a compilation of industrial music from arond the world)"it has a photo of a bunch of dead bodies piled on top of each other from the Black Hole of Calcutta on the back.Tough choice between the two. Anybody else have a favorite cover? My favorite album covers are Depeche Mode's A Broken Frame, but also really liked Missing Person's Spring Session M cover. I think Cocteau Twins get my vote for best consistent cover art, and 4AD definitely has it for best label cover art. Also loved Mary Lydia Ryan's Diaphanous cover. And of course, Kate Bush's The Dreaming, and the Hounds of Love 12" Single. I'm trying to think of my least favorite--Holly McNarland's come to mind--as does Motley Crue and most other metal hair bands. I'll have to peruse my collection sometime with this in mind. The worst album cover I've ever seen was one from about 20 years ago, where a sharply dressed a couple were dancing with what appeared to be a large spinach leaf grasped between their teeth. I vaguely recall that it may have been Mongo Santamaria. One that I can't even look at nowadays is a Butthole Surfers album, title forgotten, that has a pencil rammed in an ear. *bleah* And then there's the interior art on some John Zorn albums... Reference even the cartoons in the corners, not to mention the fact that such a great artist was reduced to massive amounts of hairspray and hoisting a conspiciously stunted sword over her head. 2 cents: One of the best, other than the artwork in general for Many Worlds..., is the Enya cover that's a take on a beautful Maxfield Parrish painting. Torchy might be the right word - it's Shirley Bassey. ;) Now if I could just figure out who's singing in the Kohl's (department store) ads that run every 15 minutes...
