I checked with the Troubadour at they have The Whitlams performing on March 11 so I'm not sure if there's a mixup. They're supposedly performing with a few "Ecto-type" bands, Paige and Lava Diva. Check out Paige at mp3.com. Also check out another performing band called Captain Pants (they're like Parliament Funkadelic meets Pantera). When you say, "this was the band that played", do you mean they played the disc or they actually played? I'm imagining the former, though I'd love to hear that the blackgirls were still performing together, even if it was just at friend's birthday parties. neal now shuffling over: Salva Nos - Mediaeval Babes O Seasons O Castles - Katell Keineg Reunion Hill - Richard Shindell Jet - Katell Keineg Casey Neill - Casey Neill ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 5 Mar 2000 22:00:47 EST From: Songbird22@aol.com Subject: sheila nicholls Someone here asked about Sheila Nicholls' album a few weeks ago... I have been listening to it a lot today. I really like a few of the songs a lot ("Elevator"--my favorite, "Question", "Medusa", etc) and especially like the tracks where there's cello/guitar/other things besides piano... her piano stuff is cool, though. I also really like her voice. I will say that about 1/2 way through the album I get really bored at the sort of repetitiveness of it all... Her writing style is very original, clever songs, interesting, and just slightly reminicent of Ani at times... www.essexrecords.com and www.sheilanicholls.com Jessica www.aquezada.com/jess | www.mp3.com/jessweiser ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 05 Mar 2000 21:07:00 -0800 From: "Bill" Subject: Over The Oh My Gosh I was sipping a capuccino at a Starbucks when suddenly I noticed Over The Rhine's "Poughkeepsie" playing over the PA. I immediately jumped out of my seat and asked the attendant what CD was playing, and she said that it was an in-house mix disc that gets distributed to stores, but not one that was for sale. Well, bummer, but at least my beloved OTR is getting air play. Listen for it at your local Starbucks, and nag them to include OTR in one of their Starbucks compilations. On related news, I had to miss OTR in concert for the third time in a row; did anyone catch them at U of W a couple of weeks ago? How were they? And, what is it about me having to miss OTR in concert? Those of you psychic out there please enlighten me. Maybe it's just that they've taken their toll these latter days... - - Bill G. np: Over The Rhine - Good Dog Bad Dog nr: Pablo Neruda - The Captain's Verses (rereading selected poems which fit the occasion...) ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V6 #64 *************************
