Hello all! Having raved senselessly about the excellent Australian band The Whitlams and their fantastic live shows, it's lovely to be able to post a few US dates to the list, with the hope that some Ectophiles may experience them live at long last :) They are playing these few dates, on the tail-end of their Canadian tour with Blue Rodeo -- Tuesday, March 7th at Bill's Bar, 5 1/2 Lansdown Street, Boston -- 18 years and over show. Wednesday, March 8th at Arlene's Grocery, 95 Stanton Street, New York -- 21 years and over show. Thursday, March 9th at Lee's Palace, Bloor Street, Toronto -- 21 years and over show. Friday, March 10th at The Troubadour, 9081 Santa Monica Blvd, West Hollywood (Los Angeles) -- 21 years and over show. You can check out their website at http://www.thewhitlams.com for sound samples, video files etc but trust me -- go and see them! They're excellent live performers! :) Kindest wishes, Heidi. - ------- " ... doesn't take much to rip us into pieces ..." -- *tori amos* * heidi maier - maier@joynet.com.au * ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 04 Mar 2000 09:18:47 -0500 From: Michael Curry Subject: Kristin Hersh/Vic Chesnutt tour From throwingmusic.com: >Kristin and Vic - "In Their Own Worlds" > >Throwing Music Online is happy to announce a joint Kristin >Hersh and Vic Chesnutt tour we're calling "In Their Own Worlds". >Kristin and Vic will be onstage together for the evening, sharing >songs and conversation "till the cows come home". I was amazed to see a bunch of cd copies of Sheila Chandra's album _Quiet_ at an HMV in New York. Well, if I'd checked the back cover, I wouldn't have been. The album has been re-issued, and if you don't have it yet, or have been thinking about checking out Sheila's music, go get it. I bought the cd, and I'm happy I did. I had ordered the tape last spring, listened to it once, really liked it, and somehow lost it in the process of packing to come home. It's great to have it back. This album, in many ways, could be called an instrumental album, because Sheila's vocals are another instrument. A must for fans and a great introduction to her work for fans-to-be. The liner notes are also really interesting to read. 2000--Narada World--72438-48621-2-1 Sandra Lockwood _Shell_ I think tonight was the first time I really listened to this album, I mean really *listened* to it. Different things kept occurring to me, and I don't know how to describe the music, except that the whole album seems like a work of art to me. A soundscape of music and words. And her voice seems like a bird sometimes (I mean that in a positive way). And there is also all this gutsiness and rawness in what she sings and in the music, so there is sweetness and softness and hardness and power, and that mix is very interesting. A wonderfully indescribably wonderful album. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ End of ecto-digest V6 #63 *************************
