After she sang two of Gershwin's songs on Herbie Hancock's latest album, she now made a whole album of jazz classics, accompanied by a huge orchestra. I'm very impressed and I like it much better than her last album. I also recommend the new Steely Dan and the new Cure album (the best since Disintegration). Jill says it will be available on her website www.jillsobule.com on APRIL 18. some of the songs have been available (in demo form?) as MP3's previously (they have been taken down, but there are other MP3's on her site now) and they sounded great, so I'm excited. irvin - ------------------------------------------------------------------- This message has been posted from Mail2Web http://www.mail2web.com/ Web Hosting for $9.95 per month! (Boston) This is just a last minute heads up for anyone else who might like them. Club address is 405 Centre St. Phone number (617) 524=3740 I don't really know much about them, but I heard a song by them on the radio two weeks ago and really liked it. I only remember that they had an indie rock sound. Still getting my feet wet here in Boston. I went down to NYC a few weeks ago and picked up some new CDs. (All of my music is being stored on the west coast, so I have been going through extreme withdrawal...buying CDs that I already own...) New CDS: Blackgirls: Happy, Procedure I went to the Wetlands for a friend's birthday party and this was the band that played... angsty/sad female songs. I always feel uncomfortable playing this album around men. (I have not heard Dana Kletter's latest music. Are folks generally excited, disappointed or mixed about it?) Rainbirds: Making Memory, The Mercury Years (I have been searching for them for years based on recommendations. I was not "consumed" by the first listen, but will sit down and listen to them again soon. I think I was just expecting a different sound, though I'm not sure what. Lisa Germano: Slide, Geek the Girl, Happiness, Excerpts from a Love Circus (I just love her. (Thank you Woj for introducing me to her way back when.) She writes about very honest things...things so honest that I would be embarrassed to write a song about them.) Lida Husik: Fly Stereophonic (Picked this up because she was talked about recently... a "fun" album... reminds me of Lush...) This Mortal Coil: Filigree & Shadow (Good, though I tend to prefer other TMC albums more... ) Meth-Thanks for welcoming me back. :) christine __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
