Alas. Different strokes... I loved _Viva! La Woman_, but their second album, _Stereo Type A_ was my #1 album of 1999. I cannot keep myself from smiling whenever I put that album on. Absolutely the best concert I've seen for ages!! (Also the hottest; I saw sweat dripping from Ani's guitar at one point, and she commented that it was their first underwater concert in a while :) Apparently it was the last date of their tour, and she told us they were utterly knackered, but it didn't seem to make a difference. Either that, or they're something truly incredible when they're wide awake... Crowd enthusiasm seemed to help out :) So this is entirely redundant on this list, but go see them the next time you get a chance! - -Philip n.p. Thanks for the tip re Shawn Colvin, Kerry -- I missed it too, but now I'll know to keep an eye out for the rerun! Here's another "too late" (though I doubt anyone could've known this beforehand): an Aimee Mann song was used on Saturday Night Live last night. I think it was from the "Magnolia" soundtrack (which, considering how often I've been heard it used in tv shows lately (it was also on Felicity last week), is proving to be the thing that will finally put Aimee on the map for good, more power to her). It was during the absolutely sick, but hilarious food regurgitation sketch. (Maybe you had to be there, but the sight of Julianna Margulies spitting a half-chewed McDonald's apple pie into Chris Kattan's mouth is a memory I won't be getting rid of soon. ) And while I'm here, this has nothing whatsoever to do with music, but: if you're located in the U.S. and so inclined to sit through a documentary about Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton, check out "The Duel", part of the American Experience series on PBS. It's on a 9 pm Eastern, 8 pm Central, and it appears to be scheduled on most of the PBS stations. Why do I bring this up? Well, if you watch it, keep a close eye on the credits. The costumes were designed by E. Shura Pollatsek, who is my best friend from college. (Some of you met her at ectofest.) This is her first national credit, and I'm really really excited for her! (She would absolutely kill me if she knew I was posting about this, too. But hey. :) I'm heading out to Illinois in the morning, and my dance card is still open for next weekend if any of the Chicago folk want to get together -- or if, gods forbid, anyone is actually in the Rockford area.
