An odd request: I'm about to put out a new DAM CD, "Jerusaklyn" (formerly known as "Yes, that's My Real Name", but I want to save that for a compilation CD). One track, "Theme for Rabbe Nachman", includes a recording I made of a conversation at the Western Wall. Do I recall that there are people on the list who are fluent in Hebrew? (Mine is rather rusty at this point.) Could someone please listen to and translate the conversation (which is about 2 minutes long)? I'd like to include it in the liner notes. I will, of course, list and acknowledge the translator. You can find the track at http://www.mp3.com/josephzitt/ Thanks! - -- |> ~The only thing that is not art is inattention~ --- Marcel Duchamp <| | jzitt@metatronpress.com http://www.metatronpress.com/jzitt | | Latest CD: Shekhinah: The Presence http://www.mp3.com/josephzitt | | Comma: Voices of New Music Silence: the John Cage Discussion List | ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 Jan 2000 19:29:56 +1100 From: Andrew Fries Subject: Re: Sarah Slean at MIT? It's a new technology based on the same principles as the multi-language soundtrack capability available on DVDs. Actually your car stereo is clearly a more upmarket model - the basic ones come with celinedionising filters. - ------------------------------------------------------ "Circus dogs jump when the trainer cracks the whip, but the really well-trained dog is the one that turns somersaults when there is no whip." --George Orwell - ------ http://www.zip.com.au/~afries/hall.html ------- ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 Jan 2000 06:21:12 -0500 From: "athol-brose" Subject: Rhodes I -- found > > Is there any way to still get a copy of this CD? If you still can't find it you using bestmusicbuys.com, I found that cdworld.com claims to have copies of Rhodes I and II both. They even have RealAudio samples. They're going for $11.97 each. They also list the label as "Samson"...ah, well. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 24 Jan 2000 01:34:12 +1000 From: "Heidi Maier" Subject: Kristina Olsen ... Hello all ... I wondered whether folks out there might be willing to share their thoughts/opinions on and about Kristina Olsen with me ... I am curious as to what others think, what comparisons you would draw etc. I've just been thinking about it as she's touring here at the moment, and I'm looking forward to seeing her in February :) Kindest wishes, Heidi. - ------ "i want so much to write well, though i know i don't ... but during and at the end of my life, i will adore those who have." -- *dorothy parker* * heidi maier -- maier@joynet.com.au * ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 Jan 2000 11:03:48 -0500 From: Joseph Zitt Subject: Re: Rhodes I -- found On Sun, Jan 23, 2000 at 06:21:12AM -0500, athol-brose wrote: > using bestmusicbuys.com, I found that cdworld.com claims to have copies of > Rhodes I and II both. I'd forgetten how good some of the early songs were, or how strong her vocals already were back then. - -- |> ~The only thing that is not art is inattention~ --- Marcel Duchamp <| | jzitt@metatronpress.com http://www.metatronpress.com/jzitt | | Latest CD: Shekhinah: The Presence http://www.mp3.com/josephzitt | | Comma: Voices of New Music Silence: the John Cage Discussion List | ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 Jan 2000 14:40:34 -0500 From: Michael Curry Subject: Sarah Slean at MIT (a few comments) Hi all, This past Friday night a friend and I made the trek up to frigid Boston to catch Sarah Slean's show at the MIT Coffeehouse. Though the walk from the T stop to the student center was rather brutal the show was well worth the discomfort. The original schedule had been for Tory Cassis to play at 9pm and then Sarah at 10pm, but instead Kurt Swinghammer, who was playing guitar with both Tory and Sarah, had a short set of his own to start things off. Kurt was certainly... ummm... unusual, but not in a way I found interesting. Next up was Tory Cassis, whose music I guess I could describe (though not neccesarily accurately) as sort of a blues/swing hybrid. He has a good voice and his set was very fun, with the band (Tory, Kurt, and then Sarah's usual drummer and bass player whose names escape me at the moment) having blast and most of the audience getting into it as well. Sarah joined them for one song and Tory wrapped things up with a very good solo cover of a Tom Waits song whose name I'm not sure of... "Time"? Then it was Sarah's turn. She launched into her set straight from setting up, not giving us any warning that she was about to begin, and it was amazing how the whole crowd (and the small venue was packed) went silent. Here's her set list, which someone was kind enough to post to navy-soup so I didn't actually have to remember it myself... (New Song) Me And Jerome Eliot Twin Moon Sweet Ones Habit Last Year's War My Invitation Julia Duncan Playing Cards With Judas Sarah was very wonderful, and was as charming and funny between songs as always. My only complaint with her set was that sometimes Kurt's noodling got a little distracting... I much preferred the cello player she had with her on her last swing through the US. Anyway, I damned glad I went (as so was the friend I brought with me, who'd I just gotten into Sarah's music recently) and I'm looking forward to Sarah's next trip down from Canada.
