And also Lara Fabian, from Quebec. Her album _Carpe Diem_ is excellent, even if slightly on the pop side of the curve; but the tune "Je suis malade" will blow the barn doors off of even the pickiest of listeners, especially when listened to through very good headphones or speakers. Lara has two other studio CDs out, her debut self-titled album, and her latest, _Pure_, neither of which I consider as good as her second one, _Carpe Diem_; she also has a live double-CD out, which I have not listened to as of yet. That server doesn't seem to exist anymore. However, there is a KCRW radio show featuring Ivy in RealAudio format at and a page with Ivy RealAudio clips at . Someone else on the pop side of French ecto is Zazie. I like her album *Zen* very much; there's a fair amount of metal and distortion to keep it far from the Celine Dion universe. (A lot of the lyrics pun around, so knowledge of French adds--or subtracts, depending on what you think of puns--a lot. Some, like "Homme, Sweet Homme," work across languages.) Since I edited the ectoguide page for her, I didn't think that sounded right. There have been some odds and ends releases, plus some stuff with the Lemon Kittens, but nothing too major. One of the sights I glanced at had rumours of upcoming new work, and it looks like there are some old (mid-80's) live videos you can by. Lene Marlin - Playing My Game I've commented on this alot around here, so I'm not gonna say much. I'm really looking forward to a possible new album next year as she is writing new material constantly, and she has got time off next year to get something done. I still play "Unbelievable Sinner" even though it has been played more than in Sweden I guess :) Tori Amos - To Venus And Back 'Nuff said :) Kristin Hersh - Sky Motel She continues to impress me more and more. Amazing album Anne Sofie Mutter w/ The Trondheim Soloists - Vivaldi's Four Seasons If you are going to buy a recording of this much recorded work, then I definitly would recommend this one. Arvo Part - Alina A classical recording taken from a several hours work. A must for people who want something to make them relax. Cæcilie Norby - Queen of Good Excuses If you want a Jazz record in the near future, then this is a good place to start. Utterly amazing!! Bulgarian Voices & Huun Huur Tu - Fly, Fly My Sadness I've loved this choir from the first time I heard them, so it is no strange thing that I love this record also. I did miss them at the Jazz Festival here in Molde few years ago, and still regret it *sigh* I've bought more music, but I think I stop there for now ... The look is wonderful (in both Netscape and Lynx, which I especially appreciate) and the information on artists is thorough and informative. I also really like how it takes full advantage of hypertext to give you different ways of approaching the same information, like being able to see what a particular commentator said about other bands. I tried looking her up on amazon.com and cdnow and neither have any mention of her. Her new album consists of her own material only where a couple of them are co-written with L. Danielsson. He did also go with her on her last tour in Norway, and I was so lucky to see them when they played here in Molde. It was one of the funniest concert experiences I've ever had. They even used the applause from the audience to kick off a song in there. I'm sure you can get her album from www.boxman.no - they do ship abroad even though the page is in norwegian. Shouldn't be too hard to order from it though as I've heard others do just that. Boxman got the lowest prices in Norway, but they still got no Happy which bugs me and I'll try to do something with just that situation ... They got all norwegian artists discussed here on Ecto, and then some - if you don't mind the language thing then you should check out Kari Bremnes - she is really worth it. - -- Yngve n.p.
