Subject: My top ten for '99 I thought it was about time to add my ten to the heap of previouslypublished lists (the only difficult thing about choosing was the seeming lack ofnew releases this year...everything I kept looking at was from '98)...wellhere it is:1. Jade Ell - "Promises and Prayers"...I'm not quite sure what I love so much about this album but I just cannot stop playing it...Jade's voice is hypnotic...combined with the sparse production...sometimes jazzy, sometimes poppy, sometimes folky...it just works for me 2. Lene Marlin - "Playing My Game" - The best pure pop record that Ihave heard in a long while...If "Unforgivable Sinner" made it onto theairwaves here it would get played to death (I'm hoping it doesn't)Here in Sweden it has been. She's a big star here. 3. House of Red - "self titled" - Any fans of Grey Eye Glances/October Project should check them out4. Brenda Weiler - "Crazy Happy" 5. Fiona Apple - "when the pawn etc..."6. Shonna Brown - - "Deluge" 7. Emily Bezar - "Four Walls Bending"8. Tekla - "Somebody Else" 9. Beth Orton - "Central Reservation" 10. Axelle Red - "Tojours Moi" - My new french chanteusesensation...dont know what she's singing about but it doesn't matter I've also got to make mention of the song most likely to get listenedto on repeat in the past year- "All About the Money" by Meja Nice to see someone mentioning swedish artists..Jade Ell is barely known back home.I think I'll check her out. Think i'll push for swedish singer Ingy again..She really is cool and reminds me of Victoria Williams singing the Velvet Underground songs. Her album Unlikely Heroes continues to grow on me. Hard to believe > in this day and age, especially when her music > suggests she'd be comfortable with techonogy... Andrea Parker's only "official" website that I've seen is located at http://www.mowax.co.uk/ap/ Mo' Wax is her main label, they fund her records etc... Beggars Banquet just picked _Kiss my arp!_ up for American distribution... It is notable to recognize that the U.S. and the U.K. versions of this album are fairly different... the U.S. version, which was released later, has a different track order, and excludes two or three of the tracks to which she added a vocal line. I bought the U.K. version probably three or four months ago and was rather surprised at the differences at the U.S. version once it was released. I've been reading reviews of it all over the place... let's see... I can recall reading about the album in Spin, CMJ, Raygun... and maybe Rolling Stone, but I'm not sure. Anyhow... I love this CD, everything that Mo' Wax has put out that I've been able to get my hands on I've loved... Attica Blues is on Mo' Wax... do y'all remember me going on and on about them a few months back? This label is just of extraordinarily high quality, period. I'd trust them regardless of what genre they chose to release, because James Lavelle, the label's big cheese head honcho dude-in-charge, really knows what he's doing. Rawk.
